DR Sam, what kind of place do you live in that doesn't have heat? House, apartment, cottage, etc.? None of the above? You certainly don't need MUCH heat in Southern California, but you do need SOME, and I don't recall knowing of places that didn't have any.
Nice news about Karen Morrow......
Because I'm trying to be good, I only consume items like the treasure below in photographic form:
Quote from: ChasSmith on January 09, 2013, 08:22:15 AMThere will still be maybe a dozen things I "have to" keep, but that's acceptable when you consider the original number was well over 200 tapes. It's taken me a year and a half to get them down to this number. The core of that material, the stuff I do love and go back to, has been replaced with proper DVDs, etc., and of course a little of it wasn't worth replacing at all. At least I can say without hesitation that I'm much better now in knowing what to acquire. I recently went through my hundreds of DVDs and BLUs and found the collection to be so tight that only two things came out. When I know I'm that careful, I can live with the shelves and shelves and shelves of it. In fact, I WANT to live with all those shelves of it. They just have to be the RIGHT things, then all is justifiable.DR ChasSmith, last year I started on a project to convert my "must-save" VHS tapes to DVD. I actually completed a number of them, but as I began work on the 1983 Tony Awards I began to get discouraged because the video drops and distortions would cause the signal from my video tape player to my PC to cut-off the recording. From what I've read I need to invest in a high-end VHS player and costlier video software for the PC. Not sure I want to go that route.

But the little electric in-wall heaters in the living room and bedroom took care of that. And oh, to have those days back. I remember the feeling of dread when I knew the winter electric bills would go as high as $45.

When I was looking at them, the Panasonic had the reputation for being the least troublesome of them all, and I'll bet it still is.
Last night I went through the last of what used to be MANY boxes of home-grown VHS tapes, mostly movies recorded off the "air", many still unavailable on disc or which I simply want/need to watch once before tossing them. Got a couple of things watched and tossed, which felt good, and I really wish I could toss the lot in one fell swoop since storage is always at a premium and needs to be dedicated to DVD and Blu-ray. But man, that is so much easier said than done. I need to devote a few evenings to just sitting down and schlepping through these last couple of dozen tapes, watching whatever it is I was keeping them for, and kiss 'em off.
It was also the only place where I had, and needed, NO air-conditioning, the exception being usually one week around August when some humidity would build up, even there at the beach.
And the word of the day is: CONTERMINOUS!
DR elmore wishes tomorrow will feel like you are floating on air!
