Saturday morning greetings from HOME!  We boarded the plane in a timely manner and then sat for 5+ hours as the weather deteriorated.  When we finally landed at Newark, we'd missed our connection to Dayton.  They got us on a flight to Cincinnati and Rob and Mary Linda picked us up and brought us home.  Today we'll retrieve Richard's car from Dayton.  By the time I fell into bed, I'd been up for 24 hours.

And I'm sick...

Welcome home and:

No one has addressed the TOD.

It's a big subject.  And important to me, but I don't know where to begin.

Okay.  Just in general:

Art Deco period commercial buildings (stores, restaurants, theaters, offices) and Arts & Crafts (roughly 1910-1930?) style homes.

I love Art Deco! :D

If you put enough fruit with it  she may not notice it as much  and blueberries and strawberries are supposed to be particularly  good as well

Have you ever tried peanut butter in yogurt?  Now, that's yummy!

I hadn't seen BEDAZZLED in years, and there were a whole lot of visual jokes and dirty jokes I'd never caught before.  It was wonderful,

I had planned on doing nothing today, but the weather outside was decidedly not frightful.  In fact, it was darn right nice enough to go out in the backyard and rake up some late falling leaves.  I then came I and spent the afternoon setting up and playing with my brand spanking new blu-ray player.  Not that I played an entire blu-ray--I played mostly with it's Internet features.  I found that it was a huge kick to play YouTube videos on TV.

I just ordered a brand new Blu-ray player last week on eBay...it should arrive sometime next week!

One of my co-workers is leaving after almost 10 years.
I want to give a little gift. I want to make a cd of "Good-bye" songs.

This is what I have so far

Be Back Soon (Oliver)
So Long Dearie (Hello, Dolly)
So Long Farewell (The Sound of Music)
As If We Never Said Goodbye (Sunset Blvd)
Don't Like Goodbyes (House of Flowers)
Goodbye For Now (Reds)
Goodbye (The Producers)
We Musn't Say Goodbye (Stagedoor Canteen)
The Promise (I'll Never Say Goodbye)

Most of these are gut wrenching ballads. I need some upbeat songs. Any suggestions?

I searched "goodbye" at http://castalbums.org and found these:

Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye - Cole Porter
The First Goodbye (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee)
Good Night Is Not Goodbye (Ballroom)
Goodbye (Catch Me If You Can; I Love You Because; Little Me; Pageant; Sarafina!; The Visit; Elegies)
Goodbye and Goodluck (High Fidelity)
Goodbye Love (Rent)
Goodbye Mr. Chips (Goodbye Mr. Chips)
Goodbye My Love (Ragtime)
Goodbye Sadness (New York Rock)
Goodbye Salome (The Robber Bridegroom)
Goodbye Until Tomorrow (The Last 5 Years)
Goodbye, Canavaro (Zorba)
Goodbye, Eddie, Goodbye (Phantom Of The Paradise)
Goodbye, Emil (Romance Romance)
Goodbye, Little Dream, Goodbye (Anything Goes)
Goodbye, My Lady Love (Show Boat)
Goodbye, My Sweet (Man with a Load of Mischief)

...and many more! ;D

TOD:

I, too like Victorian homes, Art Deco, and Arts and Crafts. I am also fond of Edwardian buildings. As much as I scoffed at structures like the Big Donut (anyone from LA remember that?), I now rather welcome them. I guess I like the whimsy and it's a break from the monotony of so much blah architecture. Character! That's what I like.

Is this it?

DR Vixmom, Mom has been doing great, thanks for asking.  (Though she's currently having some stomach issues due to a reoccurring condition of not having enough "good" bacteria in her intestines.  We are trying to get her to eat more yogurt.)

I am glad to hear it (not the stomach part obviously)  have you tried Greek Yogurt with some extra fruit?  Blueberries, strawberries, peaches?

Why am I the only person who can't stand Greek Yogurt.  I don't like the consistency.  Yuck!

Well, I can give it another shot.  What is a good brand that has a lot of fruit?

Why not just give her the Jamie Lee Curtis stuff?

Hello from sunny LA!

Had a wonderful mid-day meal with our own BK!  We talked of Brent, Barbra and other things not beginning with "B"
are there pictures?  :)

Of Brent or Barbra?

TOD:

One building I love in San Antonino is the Nix, an old hospital on the river that was built in the Art Nouveau style.

Here's a link to a black and white photo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cptesco/3262148757/

And here's a link to one in color: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sethgaines/17881603/

And the elevator doors: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sethgaines/17881524/in/photostream/

It's wonderfully ornate. There's always some detail to catch your eye.

I have discovered that there is too much of a good thing. I have consumed too much acid in these cocktails over the last few days. And I will need to take it easy.

One of my favorites was the Fitzgerald:

The Fitzgerald Cocktail

1.5 oz dry gin, preferably Hendricks
0.75 oz lemon juice
0.75 oz simple syrup
2 dashes Pimento bitters

Watched one episode of Downton Abbey and ended up doing about twelve pages and ending the chapter I was on.  I felt comfy doing that because the next chapter continues directly from there.

I believe the episode of Downton I just watched would have been episode five.  It's a goodie.

Earlier tonight, I just had the TV on and RTV was showing "The Colgate Comedy Hour" from the 1950s with hosts Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis.  I didn't see the very beginning...but I hit the record button and it saved what was in the buffer.  During the end credits, I noticed that Norman Lear co-wrote it.  They also listed the song, "Millie the Fillie," written by Jerry Bock and Larry Holofcener.  It was in the first 10 minutes that I didn't record, so I checked YouTube and it's actually there.  Two listings of the exact same version of the song:

or

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zH6ZL194qTo

And it turns out that Jack Cassidy sings part of it!  Pretty cool. :)

I just got in from seeing an amazing production of "Looking for Normal".  I was very moved by the story and by the performances.
