The weather has gone COLD! I have the day off (MLK Day) but I won't be going out anywhere. It's 27 degrees, not horribly cold (if you live in Iowa or Minnesota it's colder) but it's cold enough.

We have a friend coming over later. He's a computer neophyte and needs some help installing a program.

That's the extent of our day.

Oh, yes, I forgot, a piece on the toilet broke so Anthony will go over to Home Depot and buy a replacement and install it before our friend arrives in case he needs to use the commode.

Bye for now.

Sometimes I think that 27 with a little moisture in the air feels colder that the very cold we have today.

Have just planned a quick trip to NYC a month from now.  It's a Thursday to a Saturday. I really do want to see Drood.  I'm still concerned about boarding Callie, but I can't just stay home the rest of her life, so I'll board her for a couple days.  Alyce can pick her up from the vet Saturday Morning so she's home when I get here.  I have a feeling it will be worse for me than Callie.  I am going to ask the vet if there is something else I can give her so she wouldn't need the meds for a couple days, but I'm guessing the answer is no

DR George, it looks as though Kim Criswell will be playing the Polish bombshell Scharwenka on the ROBERTA recording.

Cool!  I love Kim Criswell!! :D

Oy and vey - and vey and oy.  I'm cleaning up the office because it's going to become the "roommates" bedroom, and what did I find?  The "Eileen" CD that I purchased from Amazon when it was released.  Yes, if you've paid attention, you already know that I bought the digital version a few weeks ago thinking that I was behind on purchasing it.  Don't worry, it's going to a good home.  But it goes to show where my head has been the last few weeks.  Oy again!

And on another note  - (D-flat, of course) I've been listening to the Kritzerland release of "Carrie" and I really like it.  I should watch the movie sometime.

I've done ten pages so far, which would normally put me close to finishing a chapter, but since this is the penultimate chapter, it's going to be about three to five pages longer than the usual chapters.  But I'm wrapping it up and will definitely finish this chapter in the next few hours - I'm taking a break to watch a motion picture and clear my head - then the real question will be whether I pull one of my crazy tears and just finish the final chapter this evening.  I did that on the last Hofstetter book, doing twenty-five pages in one day.  We'll see how I'm feeling.

DR Matthew, it will make a lovely and tasteful gift for any opera friends you might need a gift for some day.

I am back from a lovely dinner at Good Enough To Eat. I had the salmon, with basil mashed potatoes and string beans. Bruce had fried chicken with mashed potatoes and broccoli. It's a wonderful restaurant.

Spent a well needed few hours picking a couple of songs in MACAO apart bar by bar (some nice challenging sections here and there), and there's more of that to come in the next couple of days before I've got a basic handle on it.  Then I ate some leftover Chinese (pure coincidence) and, on a whim, took OUR MAN IN HAVANA off the shelf and watched it straight through.  A wonderful movie.  Even made me want to read the novel again.  What fantastic stuff.  I need to get into more Graham Greene AND more Carol Reed.

I did not watch the second season of DOWNTON ABBEY.....just the first episode and it didn't pull me in.....

So I will probably watch Season Three just to see what they are up to.

I liked the Season One episode that had the suitor coming to Downton.....but mostly to steal back his love letters from the footman.

I have spent the afternoon watching the first two episodes of Season 2, and I'm ready for No. 3.  It's all quite fascinating. I just never got to it last year.

Hope you have the whole season at your disposal, you may not want to stop until you get to the end.

I finished Disc 1, and I will have to hold off on the next until dinner is over tonight.  Several years ago I had a marathon and watched every episode of the original UPSTAIRS DOWNSTAIRS, which took me weeks.

Vixdad bought me the whole series of UpstairsDownstairs which also included the series of Thomas & Sarah, the Christmas I was going through chemo-  I watched that straight through
