I read the Sherlock Holmes stories as an adult and loved them. To me, Jeremy Brett WAS SH. I didn't care for the Downey/Law SH, but I love SHERLOCK. I know some people don't like it, and I can understand that. I don't usually like anyone messing with my old favorites. But it's done so cleverly that it won me over.

I am looking for a nice MP3 player with a touchscreen.....not an IPOD.....but nothing gets very good reviews, and I don't want a piece of junk.....so the search continues.

Do you have something against an iPod?

Nothing except the PRICE...can't afford it...  And I really don't need game apps.....

There are games?? ?? ?? ??

iPods don't come with apps, you purchase them separately.  However, there are other apps that would be useful to you. I realize they aren't cheap, but they will last forever.

Oh.

I have not watched the new ELEMENTARY series, but perhaps I shall.  I like Jonny Lee Miller.

Just when I think I'm going to drop this show there is an excellent episode, such as the one we just watched.  In comparison there has only been one episode of the British series SHERLOCK we weren't thrilled with.

Obviously if we weren't Sherlock Holmes fans we would not have named our dog after him.  Since his official name was SILVER BLAZE we have a fondness for the story.

When we were first married it seemed every Sunday afternoon a different Basil Rathbone Holmes movie was on.  It was then, watching with Keith, that I became a fan & began reading the novels.  I have the complete works on my Nook and read a bit here and there in-between other novels.

Vague & Weird - I used to hate them when they were on Ed Sullivan....they reminded me of the unfunny Wayne & Schuster.

I always thought Wayne and Schuster were pretty unfunny.

DR Jane, you really ought to go and see a sleep specialist, I know I am glad I did. I can't begin to describe how much better I feel now that I have been treating the sleep apnea for just a little over 1 year now.

Along with feeling more awake, energetic, and productive. my blood sugars are now in the normal range, my Cholesterol is improved, and I don't get lost when I drive (as much, anyhow).

Keith swears I do not stop breathing at night.  He has watched to see.

My entire family has sleep problems.  My father did a sleep study and was fine.  Maybe my next visit to the doctor I will discuss this.  I'm glad you are doing so well.

Sleep studies have likely progressed from when you father had one. You should see a doctor about it, rather than continue to suffer. It might not be Sleep Apnea, but some other sleep problem that can be corrected.

Wow, now I sound just like DR Jane! LOL!

LOL and I have talked to a doctor about it.  That was when it was suggested Keith watch me sleep for signs of apnea.  I have a new doctor now so maybe her approach will be different.  The thought of driving to Medford at night to have people watch me is very unappealing.  Do they let you read if that is your normal method of falling to sleep or would I have to lie there for hours waiting to fall asleep?

Richard likes this series.  I usually go to the other room to watch ROCK CENTER...

I had to look up ROCK CENTER.  I think I would rather watch ELEMENTARY ;D

DR MBarnum, do the sleep docs deal with leaky ceilings or noisy neighbors? If so, I'd like to see one myself!

;D

I also doubt they deal with brains that refuse to shut off.

We are open to, and have watched, many of the movies that take great liberties with the Sherlock characters.  I found that my die-hard friends who don't like any of the non-traditional themes are fans of the tv show SHERLOCK.

They actually make you feel very, very comfortable. I was worried that I would have difficulty falling asleep, but the room was so nice and comfy that I had absolutely no problem. It was really a very interesting experience, not unpleasant at all....well, until the bill arrived!

I don't know if they would let you read first or not. I know you can't take any sleep meds.

I diligently went to bed relatively early last night, only to be awakened at 5 am by a drip, drip, drip. It was raining and sometimes the eaves drip, but this sounded suspiciously like it was coming from the kitchen, so I got up and checked it out. Yup. A leak in the ceiling. We were lucky the roofer was willing to come out right away and he has now come and gone. No drip, drip, drip. I truly hope it stays that way.

DR MBarnum, do the sleep docs deal with leaky ceilings or noisy neighbors? If so, I'd like to see one myself!

TOD:

Fav Sherlock film:  my own 1983 version of HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES with Ian Richardson, which Leonard Maltin called: "The best version of the Doyle classic to date."

Fav Sherlock play:  my own THE EBONY APE...followed a close second by CRUCIFER OF BLOOD

Fav Sherlock story: probably HOUND, though I also like SIGN OF FOUR (which I also adpated with Richardson as Holmes), and VALLEY OF FEAR.

Fav Sherlock actor:  Jeremy Brett, because he was the truest to the character and not afraid to make Holmes thoroughly disagreeable and waspish, as he could often people.

Fav re-invention of Sherlock:  SHERLOCK TV series with Benedict Cumberbatch.  Remarkably faithful in tone and spirit to Doyle.

I like that your favorite film is your own.  I would like to see this again.  If you should happen to know it will be on tv please let us know.

The 1962 Bollywood film BEES SAAL BAAD is a  version of HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES...and a good, spooky one also. No Sherlock Holmes in it, but there is a police detective character.

You can watch it with subtitles here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jqgY6odgLc

Of course, if you don't want to watch the entire movie (although I don't know why you wouldn't), just watch the first couple of minutes...very vintage 1930s Universal-like atmosphere going on there!

I searched the group on FB and 7 different groups, including this one, came up on the 1st page.  Combined there are so many "likes" on these groups it is disheartening. Anti-Semitism has increased greatly in the last few years.
