Just an inch or so so far but it managed to make the trip home very slippery

For dinner I had some chili and I fried up some hominy, which I haven't had in years. It was quite wonderful. I think I'll have some bean salad in a bit.

Staying in and watching movies.  This Criterion release of Hitch's 1934 MAN WHO KNEW is astounding.

We have a very thin dusting, which has stopped before even giving us a complete covering of its li'l frigid white dust.  There might be a little more yet, but this is one of those storms in which the farther north you are, the better.  And gosh darn it, that's just the way I like it.

The team with the worst score got silly hats, bottles of wine and  scratch off lottery tickets,  my team had the most spares so we got the "spare change" prize which was a bag of dollars and change  which came to $30,  the team with the most strikes got the gold strike award and they each got a bag with $30 in gold coins, the top scorers got the red hot award  gift cards to Chili's

it was a lot of fun

:)

What happened to the gift exchange that was to be postponed until the party?

Oh no -  I am am sorry I guess I didn't explain it right - we did do the gift exchange the Friday before Christmas

I only remembered it had been postponed.  You probably talked about it-sorry.  This party sounded like a lot of fun, or would have been when I could still bowl.

We had some snow late this afternoon--I guess about an inch.  It's still freezing--about 22 degrees now.

From DR George:

And then I came home and my cat threw up.

I need reminders like this when I'm tempted to get another cat.  I hope it was just a normal cat thing and not that something is wrong.

Nope, nothing wrong.  It's a pretty normal occurance...unfortunately. :P

you need to brush him more -  its because of the hairballs -- if you brush him at least once a week it willhelp alleviate the problem  I also use to give my cat  something the vet gave me  - I don't remember the name of it (my cats been gone for about 11 years now) but it was like a gel in a tube -  I would squeeze out about 1/4 inch and let him lick it ioff my finger - or put it on his food -  he loved the taste and it help dissolve any ingested hair and prevent hairballs

It would have been a variation of Petromalt.  I was always changing formula's to keep the cats interested.  Brushing at least once a week is good.  I usually did it every day for the long haired cats.

Throwing up isn't always a fur ball problem.

TOD:

DVD: Kings of Pastry

CD: Nick & Nora

Car CD: Sweet Little Devil, The Decline and Fall of the Entire World as Seen Through the Eyes of Cole Porter.

I cannot recall even a single note of music from the NICK & NORA cd.
You know, very little of it stays with me until I play it. But I remember a youtube video of DR George doing a dance to one of the numbers, if memory serves me correctly.

The whole show was misbegotten. Arthur Laurents violated the main tenet of Hammett's characters by making Nick and Nora have marital difficulties. In his stories, the couple's solidity -- and of course, their drinking -- is what grounded everything. When all the world goes crazy and bodies start piling up, Nick and Nora have each other and a cocktail shaker.

Last night I began a book which I finished this morning.  That's what happens when I wake up at 2:00am.  Due to my sleepless nights I have read two excellent books since returning home.

The first book was THE HEADHUNTERS by Jo Nesbo.  I read a detective series he wrote.   This was is completely different and my favorite book of his.

Last nights book was THE TRUE STORY OF HANSEL AND GRETEL by Louise Murphy.  Loosely based on the fairy tale this is the story of two Jewish children in Poland who are renamed Hansel & Gretel before being left in the woods to hide from the Nazi's.
For my mystery-obsessed friend Bonnie, Nesbo has replaced Steig Larssen as her favorite writer today.

It's really not a furball issue.  I tried the squeeze stuff, but she just wouldn't eat it.  I've gotten used to cleaning up after her every couple of weeks.

Umm...no.  I didn't know about (or think about looking for) other flavors.  I just had the tube that the vet gave me.

I must check this out more thoroughly.

I prefer the second two books in The Millennium-trilogy to Nesbo's Harry Hole series.  I was rather disappointed in the last Nesbo book in the series which I read recently.  THE HEADHUNTERS took me by surprise.

There are several different brands as well.  If you scrape some behind the front teeth & briefly hold the mouth shut it does get swallowed ;)

Some cats cough up hairballs and/or throw up their food much more frequently than others, but it's a fact of cat life.  Something like that every couple of weeks is well within the range of normal.  As far as hairballs are concerned, all you can do is try to get them used to frequent combings and brushings, and try to find a flavor of petromalt that they like.  Mine have gone on and off it, sometimes being more than willing to lick a bit off my finger, other times turning their little snooty cat noses up at it.

Lately I keep reading horrible stories of police officers shooting & killing dogs.  This one is a sweet story of a rescue.

Be sure to watch the video and listen to the dog wag his tail.
