I was mistaken last night.  We watched THE FOUR FEATHERS and recorded THE THIRD MAN which I think will be tonight's viewing.

I love that Keith is recording so many wonderful old movies.

An early night tonight at dance class. The teacher and owner of the studio is off on vacation. I welcome the extra half hour.

Good evening!

TOD: I guess I may be the only person to count POPEYE as their favorite, but with music by Harry Nilsson, and Van Dyke Parks and Bill Irwin in the cast, these are a few of my favorite folks, all in one movie!

Van Dyke also did the score to Altman's THE COMPANY, at the same time I was editing a film which I convinced him to score. When I was at his house, he showed me one of the dance scenes he was working on, roughed out on his midi system. He also shared some interesting stories about working with Altman.

BREWSTER MCCLOUD is another favorite, just because I'm fond of Bud Cort and Shelley Duvall.

I'm not a big fan of his directing style, which I think is mostly improv and lots of actors talking over each other and being recorded to many, many audio tracks. Just seems a little sloppy, but that's just me. Filmmaking-wise, I think my favorites are SHORTCUTS (which features music by the subject of our new film, Doc Pomus) and THE PLAYER.

Spent the afternoon meeting with an insurance guy about long-term care insurance. Can anything be more depressing than that?

I think that beats disability insurance, but that wasn't a walk in the park either

And the word of the day is: GALACTAGOGUE!

Smoke on your pipe and put that in.

I've read the two bios of Altman and his improv style is a little more structured than many seem to think. His point is that each person speaks in his or her own language, so he would take the idea for the scene and sometimes the dialogue and not stick to the actual words, but he would let the actors say the words as they felt their characters would say them. But the scene was almost always what the scene was supposed to be.

I know that and the overlapping of sounds and lines can be distracting, but I also noticed the last time I watched "Thieves Like Us" scenes that were riotously funny because of the layered sounds and comments that I hadn't caught before. The same with "The Long Goodbye."

Yes, DR JohnG, very nice shot of Maggie.

My personal favorite that the seller has listed so far, is this one from LIL ABNER. I don't know why, but it just gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling.

Very sad news: Del Tenney, director (and sometimes actor) of such 1960S made in Stamford, CT classics as CURSE OF THE LIVING CORPSE, I EAT YOUR SKIN, SATAN IN HIGH HEELS, and HORROR OF PARTY BEACH passed away in Jupiter, Florida on February 21 at age 82.

Who among us can ever forget this "First Horror Monster Musical" ?

Something of interest for Broadway fans. This seller on Ebay has been selling some amazing publicity photos from vintage (1940s through 1980s) Broadway shows.

Just added are some gorgeous shots from THE HEAVENLY TWINS, LIL ABNER, DAMN YANKEES, HELLO DOLLY, GYPSY and much more. Even if you are not a collector of such memorablilia, it certainly is fascinating to see photos of the stars of these shows in costume!

I love the vintage photo of Shakespeare's HAMLET with King Arthur and Queen Guinevere.  I think that Lerner and Loewe might have something to say about that.

I love the photos at the link posted by DR MBARNUM.....I am saving several of them to a special Broadway Photo album.

Good idea, JRand. And check back with that seller on a regular basis for more Broadway stills. He has been going back and forth for the last year with Broadway shows and NY ballet.

Frankly, these would make a great museum showcase.

Mike, please let me know if you see anymore photos from NY ballet.
