I had a (mostly) lovwly time at the rehearsal this afternoon.
On my way there, I ran into my beloved Karen Ziemba, who was coming from a rehearsal of Broadway Backwards at Carol. I hadn't seen her in several years so I'm happy we got a chance to visit for about 10 minutes. The SUPERMAN score is a hoot, and the orchestra rehearsal from 12:00-2:00pm was a lot of fun. I really like Joshie's parents and I'm happy that I got to spend the time with them. They saw Joshie's show DONNYBROOK last night and tomorrow they're seeing PASSION, which their son Jeremy is playing in. After the lunch break, which I spent chatting with several musicians, Tripp the stage manager, a copyist friend, and actor David Pittu, who's playing the mad scientist.
Around 2:45, the cast and assorted guests, including lyricist Lee Adams began showing up, so I prepared to leave. I don't want to watch the actors deal with the band for the first time, and, while I don't know the reasons Encores! producer Jack Viertel dislikes me, his continual rudeness and efforts to ignore me completely, even while i'm working on his productions, loses its amusement factor very quickly. As I left, they were waiting for Charles Strouse to show.
As I walked up 54th Street, Will Swenson ran by me on his way to rehearsal. I wanted to yell, You're late, but he doesn't know me and he'd just think I was being obnoxious.
