Interesting that when Ben Brantley gave his online review of The Bodyguard in London. he very nearly seems to say that Heather Headley brings more to the numbers than the Top 40 versions.
This is from his review:
"I won’t say Ms. Headley is a better singer, since I have no bodyguard of my own. But she makes Top 40 standards – including, but of course, “I Will Always Love You” – sound brand- new, with a voice that twists notes into unexpected, shimmering shapes."
Obviously a must-see rave for Heather Headley that suggests, if others fall in line, the show will cross over to Broadway just fine as long as her perfromance comes with it. (Not great for the show as a piece of plotting and therefore writing, though.)
