Now, off to start taxes.

I've got to get serious about taxes too!

From DR John G:
Quote
Did you read about the family that got kicked off a plane because they objected that the movie in flight was PG-13 and their kids shouldn't be watching? The flight's response was to stop in Chicago, en route from Baltimore to Denver, if I recall correctly, and then boot the entire family off. I think charges are also going to filed against them. Meanwhile, they're talking about suing the airline.

I thought that they were let go after a few minutes of questioning.  I'm sure the other passengers were pretty pissed off being diverted so such a stupid reason.  The poor flight attendants who where no longer getting paid couldn't have been happy.

I remember complaining about a comedy routine I found inappropriate for my children.  Personally I found it offensive to me as well.  That was in the days when we watched a big screen at the beginning of the row of seats.  Since it was a stand up comic all I had to do was pull the ear plugs on my kids.  You can't easily shut their eyes to violence on the screen.

I didn't read the story, but I think if I were a passenger and had a vote, I would have chosen to turn the movie off rather than be diverted to another airport.

According the the article I read the mother requested the movie screen by them be turned off.  The people around them said it was fine with them.  There wasn't anyway to turn it off.  I guess the parent's complained but accepted the ruling.  About an hour later the pilot diverted the plane due to a problem with a passenger.  The family were shocked to find out, when they exited the plane, they were the problem passengers.

It must have been an exceptionally bad morning of dreams for me.  Keith said around 4:00am  I was either having a bad dream or I was talking to the Devil. ;D

Had a very good stumble-through - only a handful of lyric flubs, but one doesn't want that in a show that's a tribute to lyricists :)  Great cast, great songs.

DR FJL, I feel so sad reading your post. :(

Why don't you just abandon TB and find other boards where people aren't so cruel.

Jennifer, i sent you a privare reply.

Dad's in his 90's, and it's so great to hear how sharp he is.  It's like they said on the old MTM show, with him, pout a dollar sign in front of it, he'll be brilliant forever, LOL.  Actually, maybe about anything.  Mom was always a great bookkeeper, she knows her stuff, too.

Jane - Yikes, why didn't someone just throw a coat over the screen?  That might have been a little easier than diverting the plane.

That makes it sound even more ridiculous. Children should not be forced to watch a movie that is not suitable for them. The plane should have a way to turn it off for them.

And how ridiculous that they accepted the decision but were still kicked off.

They were delayed at the airport then got on another flight to continue to their destination.  They are blaming the pilot for making the decision in anger that they protested.  Maybe more info will come to light.  It seems to me even if the parent's had been a bit loud about it initially they certainly weren't a threat to the rest of the passengers or the flight.

Jane, when you're in your 80's and 90's, assuming you're still spouting advice like you are now, your kids will most likely be so thrilled you;re around to be there at all, you will be amazed.    (if not, they're ungrateful  -----  LOL  )

Last week I asked my niece if she wanted to play a fun game called Sort My Socks.

I told her it was really fun. She said she didn't think it would be fun since she doesn't like sorting her own socks at home. But she sorted mine anyways. :)

I doubt that would have been convenient.  I do understand it is difficult for airlines to only show PG movies.  I prefer the small screens in front of me that I can shut off.

Has anyone seen "Alex Cross"?  This is the movie the parent's complained about.  I couldn't find any news agreeing or refuting the parent's claims that they were polite & reasonable.

Hmm, I wonder if he works with the City Center encores video/marketing people.  They'd probably find him a nice job working in customer relations.

No, but my library has it. I will probably borrow it soon. I guess it's based on the James Patterson book so probably not appropriate for kids.

I think if the movie is on a big screen on a plane then it should be suitable for kids.

For anyone who watches SMASH on NBC don't forget it's on tonight (moved to Saturdays).

I am enjoying it this season. I like that they are focusing on more than one musical. And I like the guest stars.

Cilla or anyone who knows stuff like this, I'm wondering, have you ever heard any "rule" like this:

One of the cyber stalkers is an attorney and it looks like they've been trying to be careful that the stalking posts didn't cross any criminal boundaries, so the stalkers are of course hoping it's all civil.  Strangest example:  there have been actual postings of obits and death statements about me.  A cop told me after I read him oine of them that simply by having added "just kidding" to an otherwise horrifically descriptive post about me (naming me) as having been found dead in my Manhattan apartment, a public posting which otherwise could have caused enough concern form an investigation - simply by the poster having added two words "JUST KIDDING" which he did - was possibly seen as just a joke instead of being meant as a threat.

That's the rule of thumb I was told by this cop on the phone when i read him the posting, when a lawyer is doung the stalking!  but doesn't this suggest that someone could say the most terrible thing and add "in my opinion" or "just kidding" and get off free.

Although, come to think of it, "in my opinion" pretty much gets someone off from defamation , deosn;t it?

My parents' advice sounds much more sage now that i'm in my 50's than it did to me in my 30'.  They've gotten  so much smarter.  :)

Really, though, they are much more fun with fewer of life's pressures on them.  I think having only one "home"  to deal with has been good for them, top.

Much appreciated Jennifer.

I purchased THE INNOCENT by David Baldacci and ORPHAN TRAIN.  I've considered getting Orphan Train before and, at this price, went for it.

Of interest is THE HOUSE GIRL.  Has anyone read it?

DR FJL I think it is wonderful you are enjoying your parent's so much.  You are lucky to have this experience with them.
