What a crazy day. I really thought I would just relax and clear my mind before starting to do any work. But, alas... I got an e-mail saying the tapes were ready to pick up, so I ran out the door to do that - of course, I hadn't turned off the alarm so the minute I left that went to the alarm company - fortunately they called me and I gave the password and so that was all fine. I got the tapes, put gas in the motor car, and then drove to the transfer place in Hollywood. We put up something that was clearly an album mock-up for an album that didn't happen - it was at the slower speed of 7 1/2 ips that I've been told the previous CD release was taken from - but since the previous release was almost twenty minutes longer, where did those twenty minutes come from - I've been told those were also from the slower speed but I haven't seen those tapes. Anyway, despite the box being marked stereo (the previous release was mono), it was mono. We then put up one of the other four reels, which were at the optimal speed of 15ips and it sounded pretty good to us, and we both thought better than the previous release. Whether one of these boxes contains the missing cue we're looking for is anyone's guess, but I should be able to figure that out this evening when the stuff appears in Dropbox. But minimally, we should have this sounding a lot better.
