I am just hearing that Ray Harryhausen has died at the age of 92.

Do you think they will re-animate him at the service?
  Oy!!!! ;)

Sorry, I couldn't resist.  Fred made me do it!

I saw I'll Eat You Last, yesterday evening.

We had rush tickets which are the last row of the mezzanine at the Booth Theatre. I love the Booth. It's probably my favorite theatre on Broadway. It's small and beautifully maintained and the mezzanine is close enough that the last row doesn't put you in the heavens so you can't see or hear what's going on.

The show was actually quite good. After all the carping I did, I'm very glad I got to see it. The play is no great shakes but it's full of funny one-liners. Midler gives an excellent performance. She's not Midler up there doing shtick in the style of Sue Mengers, she's Sue for the evening. She really inhabits the character and she's believable and funny and poignant. She should have been nominated for a Tony. The set is gorgeous and Joe Mantello does a good job of taking this lump of a play and turning it into something watchable for 85 minutes (no intermission). The $80 tickets that I mentioned a few weeks ago have now gone up to $87 (they were the seats I sat in) and on Friday those same tickets are $92!!! I know if those were the prices I paid I wouldn't have seen the show but for $35 I had a wonderful night in the theatre.

We are now looking to do Kinky Boots on Rush. $37 at the Al Hirschfeld. We just have to pick a date. I will also be doing Pippin on Rush $37 at the Music Box (another of my favorite Broadway houses).

That reminds me of one of my favorite NYC stories.  I was walking down 45th Street back to the Milford Plaza one evening, and there was a young couple with their two chilldren walking in front of me.  The little boy was in the "What's this?" stage of development.  So the little boy pointe to a restaurant and asked, "What's this?" and his mother said that is a restaurant.  Then the little boy pointed ot a shop and said, "What's this?  And his mother answered that it was a store.  Then the little boy pointed to the Booth Theatre and asked, "What's this?"  .And his mother said, "That's the theater where Lincoln was shot."

Danise, you did the right thing.

I'm finding that the corporate speak at USAA is to avoid the use of words like "problem" or "negative." It's all an opportunity for improvement, etc. I even had a daylong seminar in how to accentuate the positive and to view even the greatest challenges from the view of something to be welcomed and conquered, not avoided. I'm not sure I totally agree, but I do find it has made for a healthier work environment.

DR Danise good luck tomorrow.   What the reaction will be I can't say.  If they wanted constructive criticism why not call it that and make it open.  I admire your stand to not participate.

DR TCB, am looking forward to your thoughts on Iceland...a place I have always wanted to visit!

Well, my first impression of Iceland is that the taxi to the hotel cost me $130.00.  it would have been cheaper if Icelandair had flown me to the hotel!

I arrived too late in the day (and I was too tired) to form an opinion yet on Iceland.  The city is rather quaint, but the 40 minute taxi ride from the airport there was practically nothing except moonscape.
But the people are quite friendly.  The desk clerk kept telling me if there was anything he could do for me, just to let him know.

Well, I have always believed I have to stand up for what I think is right.  And I honestly feel this is going to cause a lot of hurt feelings. By not knowing who said what it will also cause  mistrust as you look around and wonder who said something hurtful about you.

Jury in Phoenix decided to start an hour later today....could be a sign that they know what they want and will bring in their verdict today.

Nah, I didn't buy that one.  I thought it meant they were tired or wanted to come in later to avoid the traffic

If they are smart, JRand, they will play cards for several days so they can continue to rake in that twelve dollars a day.

Maybe they are listening to sex tapes and reading the emails and texts out loud

I'm not at all surprised the jury isn't back yet and I don't think it's necessarily a good or bad sign.  Heck OJ was 3 hours and it was not guilty.  The longest I had a jury out was 5 days and they came back guilty on all charges.  It was in Arizona about 25 years ago.  I still think it will be murder 1, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's a compromise and it's murder 2.

I may be in a little bit of trouble at work.  I wouldn't post this on FB because some people I'm friends with are from there.  We are going though a class.  Well the assignment for this week is to tell 2 things you like and 1 you don't about every person on the floor.  They said it would be a secret as to who says what but they call it "A Gift of Feedback".  Well, I'm sorry folks but I don't see it that way.  I feel like you could say fifty nice things but all anyone is going to look at is the things you don't like.  By making it a secret as to who said what your going to have people wondering if you are the one who said something that could possibly be taken as hurtful.

I said I wanted to be excused from this assignment because I felt it wasn't a "Gift" but a "Pandora's Box".  I think something like this is more likely to cause more problems then help build the team.

Anyway, I was excused but it was at the very end of the day and I just have a feeling I'm going to be called down to the office whenI get back.

I think I did the right thing.  I can't believe we would be asked to even do this type of thing.  What do you think?

I think what you did is fine as long as you explained your reasons.

DR MBarnum, sorry about this......

Medford Fire-Rescue has been given the opportunity to train on various firefighting tasks in the old Kim's restaurant building, currently owned by the Coquille Indian Tribe, that is slated for future demolition. Crews will be conducting tasks such as search & rescue, fire hose operations, ventilation and other various firefighting skills. Training in the building is scheduled to take place over the next several months.

Favorite Ray Harryhausen:

Mighty Joe Young
Clash of the Titans
Golden Voyage of Sinbad.

Good choices.

I am a big fan of MIGHTY JOE YOUNG

It is sad to read of his passing and sweet to think of the good long life he had.

Just had two amusing things happen - both related to where we host this here site.  First I got a call from the president of the company, asking why we were leaving after all these years.  I told him I didn't know what we were doing, other than a major redesign and updating of the site.  He then said they'd noticed that someone had been downloading the entire site and discussion board, so a flag had gone up, which is why they called.  They told me they could have hosted a mirror site, too - that they do that all the time.  I told them I know very little about any of it but that the web guy and I had met with the company who would be doing all this redesign and updating and were just doing what they recommended.  He seemed fine with that, although I'm sure he thinks we may ultimately move anyway.  And then I got an e-mail from them saying they'd definitely found whatever problem had put the site down yesterday for over an hour and that it wouldn't happen again.  Funny.

I also talked to the folks doing the work, and they've already begun "cleaning" everything on the site - whatever is causing the virus warnings to pop up (we don't have any viruses, BTW) - it's some malfunction and so they're just methodically cleaning every aspect of the site and the board before they actually update the software for both to the latest version - we're about five versions behind on both site and board.  Once that's happened (probably in the next day or two) then I'll be able to go in to the mirror site, nose around, see what's new and exciting and different and how everything will work - and then Doug can start the actual redesign of the site itself.  Meanwhile, I'm probably going to ask for two volunteer dear readers to go to the mirror site and make sure that when they log onto the updated board that everything works - passwords, avatars, all of it.
