Well, you've read the notes, the notes escaped, and now it is time for you to post until the escaped cows come home.

Deb, rush tickets can be a great way to see a show. The only issue is that you have to be at the box office early so you can buy the tickets when it opens. They usually sell out quickly. That's what my friend did for Bette Midler and is doing for Kinky Boots. He lives in Midtown and he's going to the theatre at 7:30 am to wait outside the box office, which will open at 10am. When it opens he (and a line of other people) will be asking for "Rush tickets" You can usually buy a limit of 2 tickets per person and it's usually cash or credit card (though some rush policies require cash only). Pippin's rush policy (I know you already saw the show) limits you to 1 ticket. The seats are usually in the last row of the balcony/mezzanine. In a small theatre like the Booth or the Music Box that's fine but in a larger theatre you might need your binoculars if you're in the last row.

Another caveat: not every show has rush tickets AND some shows only have Student Rush, which I think it wrong. I guess once you get out of school you don't have to worry about money and it's assumed you can pay the outrageous ticket prices.

Here is a list from Playbill for the current shows that have rush (or lottery or standing room) tickets available.

Rush Tickets for Broadway

So, that's rush. It's not great for you, living on LI unless you take the day off and come in to the city early and are willing to sit in front of the theatre until the box office opens. It might work for a matinee.

Ben - Can you tell us a bit more than we've heard about the people she selects in the audience?  Do they appear to be plants?

Maybe I should have resisted, but I just had to do one obvious parody lyric about the whole "Taking back the Tonys voters seats" thing - and that they kvteched that they had made plans with their friends  under that I'LL SEAT YOU LAST Times article that broke this story.

Bette considers a number to sing on the awards show. (The Drama Desk show, that is!) :)

Tune of FRIENDS (Bette Midler classic)

(verse)
And I’m on stage alone
Sometimes it’s tough to be me
But you, you’re never on your own
If you have free seats to see me

If you got the right friends
You get to see shows free
But you must get your friends
To not play wait-and-see

They had free seats but they’re gone
Nominators drove them away
When you said “hey, come on”
They said “we got to pay”

Sitting here by that P.C., bub
Reading of this new contretemps
Don’t care if a show’s hurt by Tony’s snub
You say “My friend got me a comp”

Oh just get the right friends
But don’t let things go wrong
Yes you must not let your friends
Procrastinate too long!
Friends (la, la, la, la, la, la)

May I re-open talk if anyone cares regarding that Alec Baldwin article  which is at

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/alec-baldwin/broadway-orphans_b_3229873.html?view=print

Alec wrote: "Ben Brantley, who I must state up front is no fan of mine (every John Simon must have his Amanda Plummer, I suppose), is not a good writer"

Is Alec really comparing himself to Amanda Plummer being dogged by john Simon?

Of course, Brantley loves him sometimes, so this is weird.

Amanda Plummer is in many respects a quirky underdog actress being picked on by John Simon almost always, what kind of odd comparison is this when Brantley praises Alec quite a bit over the years?

Fred, she chooses one person for both bits and I don't think they are plants. Some people were saying they were plants because everyone had slip on shoes but my friend who saw the show at a different time from me said the person at her show had tie shoes and Bette riffed while she waited for him to untie his shoes and take them off. They all seem to be men. It's a very funny bit and even if they are plants it's a fun moment. I think the embarrassment (not huge, just general oh, my god, kind of stuff) is genuine and adds to the enjoyment of the bit.

For those of you wondering about the shoes, it's all about walking on a pristine carpet. And, depending on the audience member, sitting (NOT) next to Miss Mengers on the couch.

Thanks, Ben!   (So the running time can change depending on the type of shoes work - slip-on or lace-up - for the person in the audience.  Don't plan your train home from penn Station or Grand Central too tightly, LOL!)

I am afraid that the cobblestone and brick streets and sidewalks, here in Iceland, make it difficult to travel in my wheelchair. I thought of taking a cab, but we won´t go there.

Good morning, all!

I received some rather upsetting news from a friend last night that made sleep difficult. I hope that the news isn't as bad as I fear it could be, but only time will tell.

Today, I head back to Riverdale to finish up the mix for DEAREST ENEMY. I think it's sounding rather good. We got through seventeen numbers yesterday, so we have the last two numbers in Act Two, the intermezzo, three numbers in the Epilogue, curtain calls, bows, and the cut song, "The Pipes of Pansy." Our conductor sent in his mixing notes only a couple of days ago - he's only had the first edit for two months! - so Judy has to take time to deal with his thoughts before we can deal with finishing up a number. I'm looking forward to the Act Two Finale today: we add sound effects of gunfire, breaking glass, and other noises.

When I got home, I had a note from the podiatrist saying the X-rays showed my foot was fine: so, why am I having problems walking on my left foot?

On the one hand, it's bad news that Mark sanford, a Republican got that House Seat in South Carolina.

On the (very limited for the country) bright side, views are picking up on my Mark Sanford CAROLINA IN THE MORNING parody video from a long time back.

Closing in on 135,000 views (only about 200 away!)
