Went through the box of matchbooks. While there are a few dozen that are definitely collectible, I don't (yet) find any from places I knew directly. I think there are a few filed away apart from these, so over time I'll find them.
The yard sale collection owner had a number of them from Nebraska restaurants and hotels, a few from Texas, and several good NYC hotels such as the Waldorf Astoria, Algonquin, Hotel Taft, and Trader Vic's at the Plaza. Also, one from The Ambassador - "Los Angeles' only garden hotel".
Most still contain matches. The Algonquin's has those extra-wide matches with a different blurb printed on each one. One from [somewhere, I forget which one it was] has a great illustration printed across the matches.
Here are two I think we should plan an evening around. We'll arrange a HHW Heartland get-together in Lincoln, Nebraska. First we'll enjoy some fine food at Tony and Luigi's (Known As Hosts From Coast to Coast), to the accompaniment of music for our entertainment. Afterwards we'll meet our friends for nightcaps at the Pow-Wow in the Teepee Room at the Cornhusker --
a Schimmel Hotel.
