What type of movies do you prefer, Older black and white or more current ones?

I prefer good movies, which leaves out most of what's made currently.  I love black-and-white, but also love color from the classic era.

I like color and I like black and white, but I do NOT like black and white movies that are colorized.

Glad the court did the right thing, but I have to tell you that today is another day I will go nowhere near Facebook.

Ha.  My sentiments exactly.  Not that I go near Facebook very often anyhoo.

Went through the box of matchbooks.  While there are a few dozen that are definitely collectible, I don't (yet) find any from places I knew directly.  I think there are a few filed away apart from these, so over time I'll find them.

The yard sale collection owner had a number of them from Nebraska restaurants and hotels, a few from Texas, and several good NYC hotels such as the Waldorf Astoria, Algonquin, Hotel Taft, and Trader Vic's at the Plaza.  Also, one from The Ambassador - "Los Angeles' only garden hotel".

Most still contain matches.  The Algonquin's has those extra-wide matches with a different blurb printed on each one.  One from [somewhere, I forget which one it was] has a great illustration printed across the matches.

Here are two I think we should plan an evening around.  We'll arrange a HHW Heartland get-together in Lincoln, Nebraska.  First we'll enjoy some fine food at Tony and Luigi's (Known As Hosts From Coast to Coast), to the accompaniment of music for our entertainment.  Afterwards we'll meet our friends for nightcaps at the Pow-Wow in the Teepee Room at the Cornhusker -- a Schimmel Hotel.

I loved "A Place in the Sun," but I was not as big a fan of "An American Tragedy," which we had to read in 11th grade. I think it was the only book assigned to us in high school that I did not finish. I even finished "Intruder in the Dust," which turned me off Faulkner for 20 years. I only read the first 600 or so pages of "Tragedy" and should have read the last 200 after making that much effort, but I completely lost interest.

Which brings to my Ask BK question: Were there any assigned books you didn't finish in high school? Or at least ones that stick out?

Silas Marner - sorry, couldn't do it.

LOL! My least favorite George Eliot novel. Forcing it on children is a punishment. Glad I read it long after school, but, short as it is, it is hard to get through.

I currently have two vases with lovely roses in them, and then a little assortment in another vase.  These roses happen to actually smell like roses - I found the one bunch in the whole jernt that did.

Love all the matchbooks today. My folks have a rack on the wall, and many are from places they visited when they came to see me wherever I lived at the time. I'd forgotten many of the places and always enjoy the reminder when I go home.

Silas Marner is George Eliot's Masterpiece.

Yes it is hard to get through, but well worth it.

The lessons in this book are  immeasurable!!

Going to A Catholic girl's High School meant reading a lot of Classic Books.

Being younger I didn't appreciate or understand a lot of the Old english style.

I read Silas Marner about 5 years ago and Loved it!!

The only COLORIZED movie I have seen that I have enjoyed is the colorized version of the original SHE.....

They have improved the process from the early days of colorizing. I do enjoy the colorized MARCH OF THE WOODEN SOLDIERS, but I can watch it either way. It is a movie that should have been in color to begin with.

Recipe for a good movie - good story, good direction, good acting, good photography, good music, good editing, etc.  You can still have a fine movie with a couple of those ingredients missing, but the first three items are mandatory.
