On this day in 1902, Mr. Richard Rodgers was born!

I'm going to have to listen to "Moon in My Window" later. I think that's my favorite of his melodies.

Mine would be SLAUGHTER ON TENTH AVENUE!

T.O.D.

de Paul:

          PUT 'EM BACK
          JUBILATION T CORNPONE

Wilson:

          TILL THERE WAS YOU
WILL I EVER TELL YOU / LIDA ROSE
          THE SADDER BUT WISER GIRL
and of course, my favorite, cut from the score; Tommy's ballad:

          GREAT HONK, I LOVE YOU!

One of the stranger songs that Meredith Wilson wrote was called CHICKEN FAT. It was recorded by Robert Preston

My mom bought that record when I was little.  I probably still have it somewhere, I used to exercise to it

I didn't know about this!  I just set my DVR from here at work to record it!  ;D

George, you do know that it is on at 10, instead of 9:00.

It is supposed to be near 100 degrees this weekend.  :P

That is hotter than here.  Our thermostat is currently reading 89 degrees.  We have the air conditioner on.  What a difference from a couple of days ago when I was complaining about the cold.

You're lucky.  I have no air conditioner.  And the kind of apartment (condo) that I have makes it not really possible to have one.  Ever since I got my operable skylight, things have been fairly comfortable when it gets really hot outside. :)

Why?  Don't you have any windows?

Tonight was super muggy and we sweated and swatted insects like crazy in the "tent".  Then, a cast party at a house full of people and no a/c running.  Got mine on now, just to bring the house down a few degrees whilst I enjoy a cool-down shower.  Well, one more of these and I'm done!

I spread the word about today being Richard Rodgers' birthday, and it was a little disheartening to discover just how small a shit most of these people dabbling in an R&H revue actually gave about that piece of information.

We've got two projects coming up, both of which have had previous CD releases and ones where I've hated the covers.  So, Doug has redone the art for ours - one version of one using the same art (the poster art) but removing a lot of negative black space that was pointless and making the title treatment actually look good.  So, while that's the same art, it looks a million times better and actually has some dynamism now.  The alternate and totally new cover is also very nice - much brighter, no black at all and kind of a grabber.  Which would you choose - you can't see them, but would you automatically go to the poster art, or would you like something completely different.  Of course, we could do one on the front and the other on the back of the booklet - then people could choose.  What do you think.

I like the idea of one on the front and the other one on the back.

DR DL Iris, that "Great American" sounds, well, great.  I wish I'd gone, too, more than that one time.  I wonder if the one at La Cienega was smaller than yours.

And yes, the waiters just sang when the time was right, walking among the tables ... no stage or formality or anything.

After, we went to Little Toni's - I was really hungry, so I split a small dinner salad with Barry Pearl and then had a side of meatballs and a piece of bread and butter.  Probably more than I should have eaten, given the Cobb Salad for lunch, but I'm allowed to splurge once a week and the most I would have splurged is probably a total of 1800 calories, so I should be fine with that and not gain.  I'll be very good tomorrow and Sunday and all of next week.

One of those specious Blu-ray sites that one loves to hate - just went on and found a message that I've been issued a permanent ban, like it was there idea.  A few weeks ago they sent me yet another of their endless "infractions" suggesting I was posting just to incite.  What I was, in fact, having the temerity to do was correct all their usual idiots from spreading misinformation and doing good Blu-ray releases harm.  They don't like that.  They'd rather have the idiots than someone who knows what they're talking about.  So, I shot back a reply telling them to ban me permanently - yes, it was MY idea you insufferable bunch of Nazi twelve-year-old cretins.  Not yours - MINE.  Perhaps I'll have some fun in tomorrow's notes.

Can't wait to read them.

This sounds like a soundtrack, and I would think that most people would prefer a version of the original poster art.  Having a variation of it would be nice and make it obvious that it's a different release.  But since you've had the alternate/new cover made, you might as well use it, too.  I'd vote to use both.

Sometimes Wikipedia tends to phrase their information in a pecular manner.  Since I didn't know anything about Gene de Paul I sought out wisdom from the Big W.

Quote
De Paul was one of the composers of the songs and dances for the 1954 musical film Seven Brides for Seven Brothers for which he was nominated for the 1983 Tony Award for Best Original Score.

Strange?

Very. :-\

Yes, I searched and found the title and didn't pay attention to the time.  I just set my DVR to record the show.  I got home and it had recorded!

It's more that I spend most of my time on my second floor, but there are no doors on the inside of my house, except for the bathrooms.  So, none of the coldness would stay where I'd want it...and up in my bedroom on the third floor, there isn't a real "window," just a skylight that only opens up about six inches and has a screen that doesn't come out.

Can someone help me? I put a cd on my ipod, and when I try to eject it, it says: "The ipod cannot be ejected because it contains files in use by another application."

What does that mean, and how do I eject the ipod?

Wish I could help you, Laura. Did you try powering the iPod off?

I would recommend shutting off your computer.  But since it's after midnight on the left coast, I assume that you did.

Tonight, I was supposed to work concessions for a local dance studio's end-of-year performance, but they didn't have enough ushers, so I took tickets for the pre-show instead.

There were over 700 pre-sold tickets and they only had about 8 ushers...they usually want 15 for a ticketed event!

But they just couldn't get people to sign up.  Maybe because it's the last event at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts for the season, AND they're going to remodel the outside façade.
