Again on the phone with Apple forever, trying to suss out this Time Capsule icon thing - there's a firmware update for the Time Capsule, so before sussing any further we have to do that. Of course, we can't do that because we get an error message because it won't do the download. So, we did a thing called speedtest and that revealed the culprit and it's a huge surprise: Time Warner. My download speed is 0.26 instead of 10 to 15 like any normal high-speed Internet. No wonder I can't play any videos or do anything and why downloads are taking twenty minutes instead of thirty seconds - hence why the firmware download ain't happening. So I called Time Warner and told them what was going on - they said blithely my five year old modem "appears" to be fine. I told them 0.26 was not fine. He immediately blamed the Time Capsule router, which is what they always do. So, despite my not wanting to do his stupid checks, I unplugged the Ethernet cable from the Time Capsule and went directly into the computer and we did speedtest again. Oops. 0.26. So, I said, "Gee can't blame Time Capsule so I blame YOU." I plugged the ethernet back into the Time Capsule and he booked an appointment for tomorrow when someone will be here between eleven and noon to give me a new up to date modem. I got off the phone and found nothing was working - couldn't even get on the Internet. I knew when I unplugged that ethernet cable that everything would get screwed up - thank you Time Warner. I called Apple, we unplugged the power of both Time Capsule and the modem, replugged and I'm back on. IF this new modem doesn't have great speed and I mean the HIGHEST possible, then AT&T here I come next week.
