Happy Sunday, all!

BK, loved your description of the recording session yesterday. I love studio work. And though I've sung with 26 pieces behind me in performance at the Victory Awards years back (and many large orchestras in shows, when they were affordable to producers), but I've never been in a studio with that many pieces. Must have been gorgeous to hear.

I also loved your Kritzer Time song.

I did not love Shrek, the Musical last night, which came as no surprise to me. Apologies to those who do love it. Lots of great work was onstage, but like a cheap hot dog, it was mostly filler. 'Nuff said.

Listened to the cast album once. I was surprised at how characterless the whole thing was. And for being based on a raucous comedy, the songs were largely laugh free.

Vixmom, is that Vixdad on the right in the bright shirt? We don't see many pics of Vixdad.

The Vixter did a lovely job with the caketop cartoon. She definitely has talent.

Bruce, I'm glad the recording sessions have been going so well. I'm amazed at the size of the orchestra! Looking forward to seeing more pics and hearing the final product.

Singdaw, I always loved Kliban, too. I used to have several Kliban tee-shirts. My favorite was of two cats. One says to the other, "If I had two dead rats I'd give you one." True love--for felines. I like the cartoon you posted, too.

It has been overcast and cool here all weekend. I'm very grateful, given that so much of the nation has been suffering with the heat.

Cool vibes to all who need them!

As you all know, I'm no fan of the composer or her former husband.

And i am hone. I accomplished a lot and had a really wonderful work session with Rob. I think ROBERTA is going to be fun.  Also got a couple of funny emails from Mr Graae, who aches all over from carrying a double bass in a pair of high heels.

I forgot to mention that I've been told that the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, once home to the Oscars, theater in the round and concerts, but more recently home to nothing but an occasional book fair, is going to be demolished.

I already voiced my opinion of her behavior at THE CRADLE WILL ROCK band rehearsal.

I think tonight i am going to watch Jeremy Brett as Robert Browning in THE BARRETTS OF WIMPOLE STREET. I'll pretend I'm watching ROBERT AND ELiZABETH and sing the score at the proper moments.

Today's session was also great fun, although not as smooth as yesterday's thanks to three difficult charts.  I had several suggestions for little changes today, but once we got everything it was splendid and certainly we wrapped on time and that's all that matters.  When there's no click track and a lot of rubato and Lanny is conducting and not playing keyboard, it can take a bit of time to get it together and working the way we all want it to.  But these musicians are fantastic and it really only took a couple of times talking through things for them to get with it.  Today we only had strings, French horns and reeds, plus rhythm, harp and percussion.  Once everyone left we had some Astroburger (great, as always - last time I had one was Sandy's vocal session on the Christmas album, which was last September or October!), then we did the one piano vocal, which came out great, and then Lanny began doing a handful of piano overdubs - I stayed for two of those, and then left he and the engineer to finish the few others.

Glad the sessions are going so well, bk!  May it continue through to the completion of the album. Can't wait to see some video from the studio.

Nice song in today's notes, too!

Ditto and ditto!

Been reading "Before the Parade Passes By," a bio of Gower Champion and have just finished the "Hello, Dolly!" chapter.

BlueGobo.com has posted a visually faded but fascinating hour-long TV special of Mary Martin in Japan with a tour of "Dolly" that includes several scenes of the show on stage.

http://www.bluegobo.com/production/2883199/video/10692

This is great!  Thanks for posting it, John!
