DR Vixmom - what an awful experience for the Vixter. Sounds like everyone was really nice, though, and great that you both have such a positive attitude about it all. People can be so rotten.

Yes it was an awful experience but I think it taught here few lessons about choosing a parking space carefully - she was in an unlit area away from pedestrian traffic --- we know she picked the location deliberately in an effort to keep the car from being dinged by shopping carts and careless parkers and also there is a requirement that employees park farther away to leave nearer parking spaces available for customers - but there were safer and less remote areas she could have chosen with more light and more pedestrian traffic - additionally she now understands that our constant lectures about not leaving valuables in plain sight in the body of the vehicle were not parental ravings about neatness.

I suspect that had her portfolio and large toolbox containing all her art supplies had been locked in the trunk out of sight there would not have been any incentive to the robber to break in

I was never a Frogger fan however there was a while when I was absolutely obsessed with Pacman-

and of course one Christmas my parents splurged and bought the family a Colecovision so we could have hours of fun playing Pong

HORRIBLE about the Vixter's car. Thank goodness for so much understanding and generosity. I'm extremely careful about things like that. Tough but valuable lesson learned there.

First video game experience ever:

PONG, in the top floor bar at the "round" Holiday Inn at Sunset and the 405. Loved it. And later, Pac Man. To this day, I find those early, simple games perfectly entertaining and addictive. And I'm not a gamer -- at all.

DR Vixmom, that is terrible about the Vixter's car. Some people are just so awful.

I'm curious were the supplies sitting on the seat or in the trunk? I've always been told never to leave anything on the seats that people can see.

I hope there was a camera.

I sort of agree with the Vixter though. Even though it was horrible what happened the other acts of kindness made me teary. How wonderful for the manager of the restaurant to replace her art supplies. And how wonder that the guy at the store gave you the plastic on the house. There are some really kind people out there too!

I just wrote asking about this (before I read this post). Yep definitely can't leave your stuff in plain view. And good idea about choosing a better parking spot in the future.

Good morning, all! The new mattress is here and my bed is at least 3 inches taller than before. The delivery men arrived around 8:50, put the new mattress on the bed for me and carted away the old one. I've made the bed, which was more strenuous than I ever realized, and I plan on spending most of my day there.

DR Jeanne, I know what you and Ron are saying and I appreciate the reminder. I've been on my own in Manhattan for 34 years, and I've rarely had a situation I cannot manage myself. It's hard for me to ask someone to come move furniture or make a bed. The last time I asked someone to make my bed was when I had this same mess several years ago. I called my best friend and father of my goddaughter, but he and his wife have stopped speaking to me. I don't know why, but it will be a cold day in hell before I ask another favor.

So, DR vixmom, I am so happy that everything worked out and that the vixter wasn't injured personally.
