I don't know if any DRs have been paying any attention to the horrible terrorist attack at the Westgate Mall in Nairobi this week, but this one picture of a lone little girl fleeing the shooting is an image I can't seem to shake. One wonders where her family is, How frightening for her and all of other kids in the mall (there was a popular kids cooking contest going on at the time of the attack.)

Awww.  I thought the children were told they could leave.  I read a story of a mother & her two children who left.  The 4 year old boy told one of the gunman he was a badman and the gunman apologized.

Just found our replacement for Sally - Heather Lee, who is fantastic and perfect.  Plus I get to lose one of Sally's songs I didn't like and replace it with something I love.

Glad is worked out so well, and so quickly.

First the dishwasher broke while company was here.
Finally we have a repair man out and he had to order a new motor
Finally the motor arrived only he couldn't install it since it was the incorrect motor
Finally he returned today with the correct motor only the motor was broken.

GROAN!!!! ;D

He will return on Monday anytime after noon.  He could have come on Friday but not until between 3:00 & 6:00.  We didn't want him here that late so I hope the wait until Monday is worth it and he comes closer to 12:00 as he did the last few times.

Wednesday morning greetings!  I am at the library where my career began 40 years ago, waiting for the September book discussion to begin.

Fun.  What are you discussing?

Today's book was What the World Will Look Like When All the Water Leaves Us, a collection of stories by Laura van den Berg.

Hello!   Hope all is well.  Vibes to those who need them.  Been a busy day, but will conclude with some hanging out up in the Castro tonight with my "bud" - not sure what to call him, other than all sorts of amazing.

No. Unfortunately there are a number of children who died, particularly where the annual cooking contest was being held, which is also where the attack began. The host of the cooking contest was a very popular television host. She unfortunately died, as did her husband.

The two children that were allowed to leave was just a single incident and mainly because the mom told the shooter what he wanted to hear.

There hasn't been much detailed reporting in the US media for some reason. But I have been reading a lot online from various sources, particularly media in India as a lot of the victims were Indian or of Indian origin. Evidently there are a lot of India expatriats living in Nairobi.

Need some vibes for a friend who has been diagnosed with severly low endorphin levels. She's been put on Zoloft, but it takes two weeks to work. In the meantime, my friend is enduring a living hell and could use some any amount of support. Thanks in advance.

DR George - here's a very brief review of the new Wizard of Oz blu-ray box set:

Cool!  I think I may need to get this just for the "4 GB "Wicked Witch of the East" flash drive"! :D

Woke up to an e-mail from Sally Mayes saying she got some filming thing and cannot come to do our show a week from Monday.  She actually got the filming thing the other day but was still coming.  Now they've just told her she can't leave.  This is not so good and we know are in panic mode until we find a suitable replacement.

That's terrible!  Hopefully, you can find someone good!

From DR George:
Quote
Well this is pretty cool...today, I went to a local burger joint for lunch and in a rare move, I paid with cash.  I got the burger for free because they have points cards and I had enough for a free burger.  I paid for the drink and tater-tots.  Anyway, I got some change, a couple of dollars and 18¢ and I just looked at the coins.  One is a 1919 wheat-back cent!  Pretty cool, huh?

Super  8) !!  :)

What are you going to do with it?

Years ago, when my sister and I were both in high school in the early 1980s, she went to Disneyland and brought me back a Big Al bank.  I still have it and it's stuffed with old and unusual coins and money from other countries.  I haven't opened it in years.  Fortunately, there is a rubber stopper on the bottom, so I don't have to break it to get anything out.  Here's a picture that I found on the interwebs:

My friend Steve McIntyre, who played the moonshiner in CHRISTMAS UP THE HOLLER is in the national tour of ONCE, which begins on October1. I am very happy for him.  Steve's the second from the right holding a bag in his right hand and a cup of coffee.

She was the popular host I mentioned. She herself was not American but Indian, however her husband worked for a US govt. agency or something like that, so there was a connection. There was another pregnant woman mentioned in stories who was Dutch and her partner was from New Zealand, if I recall. This woman worked with a charity that the Clinton's are involved with.

I don't believe that there have been any American's listed among the dead, thus far.

My question for ASK BK Day:

Have you seen any promos for the new TV season and does anything look interesting to you?

Also, what is your favorite CLASSIC game show?

I don't even turn on regular TV so haven't seen anything.  Favorite classic game show - I always loved What's My Line? and To Tell the Truth (Bill Cullen?) - and I liked Treasure Hunt with Jan Murray.
