Hmm, I wonder if the show would spring for you to take a car service rather than be frustrated by the traffic every day.  Stranger things have been budgeted for, and maybe the theater has a deal with a car service so it would be cheap for them.

Got my notice from Amazon that Druxy's book has shipped.   Looking forward to it.

The rain has started, sweetly and softly. But 8 inches of it are possible today. I hope we get a good soaking, but not a flash flood.

DR JohnG, I wish I had thought to take some pictures of the lake and the trees without my niece in them. I think I will take my camera back and do that (since I bike there most days).  I can post a picture of that.

DR Jane, I also thought my niece would be able to go around the lake by bike. However it can get kind of tricky when there are other people on the path (kids, dogs and other bikes especially). Luckily no dogs jumped out at her. That would not have been good (although she was pretty far from them). She did have one problem with another biker. He was trying to pass her. But he didn't let her know that he was there. People have to realize that kid bikers might not be that great. I told her the biker was there. But i think she got a bit nervous and her steering veered. I told her to be more careful since that was dangerous. But really him zooming by was dangerous too. I don't think people who want to race should be on this path since there are so many pedestrians.

At the end of a wonderful visit with pumpkin cookies and lots of talk and laughter. Larry looks good and looks like he has lost 16 pounds!

Good morning, all.

Got a decent sleep and was even permitted to sleep in a little extra this morning, which is all to the good.  But for the nonce...

Coffee!

Fine notes on some fine subjects, and another fine photo to start the day.  You can't ask for much more than that.

Good morning, all! I slept restlessly so I slept in this morning. I am bathed, dressed, and on my first cup of coffee, listening to several Bach cantatas for my Sunday devotions.

My calendar today is quite empty: make the bed, burn CDs for a friend, listen to the CDs of DEAREST ENEMY and the 1970s London SHOW BOAT with Cleo Laine, watch the DVD that DR Ben and Anthony brought me.

DR Ben, I am pushing you right out of the photo! I still look like all those 16 lbs went right to my chin!  I haven't had a haircut since a day or two before my affliction on Aug. 7. It doesn't look dreadful in the photo, but it sure feels too long to me.

DR TCB, the spare page in the DEAREST ENEMY booklet should be the show's copyright information. And I agree with you about DEATH OF A SALESMAN, a play I dislike very much. To me Miller's only good play, and it's quite brilliant, is THE CRUCIBLE.

The Pepperidge Farm pumpkin-cheesecake cookies are so-s0. I'd prefer pumpkin-walnut or pumpkin-pecan cookies with a lot of spice and maybe some raisins. The cheesecake seems to me more an obstacle than a fortuitous discovery decision.

DR Jane,  Jackson has informed me that he submitted his request to join the group.

The answer to DR KATE's question is, of course:

Bea Benaderet and Gale Gordon - both of whom were under contract to other shows.....Bea was in the Burns & Allen Show and Gordon was in Our Miss Brooks.

Did they follow the plot of a specific episode, or did they combine several plots?

Last night I watched the 2nd DVD of the first season of HOT IN CLEVELAND; it's truly funny and so demented. Then I watched a BBC drama "A HARLOT'S PROGRESS, a fictional bio of William Hogarth and the creation of his series of paintings "A Harlot's Progress," from young girl arriving in London, being conned onto whoring by an old madam, being kept by a rich man, being tossed aside and sliding into poverty and crime, prison, pox and death.

Th cast was very good: Sophie Thompson as Jane Hogarth and Toby Jones as Hogarth were quite wonderful.  The designs looked much like the BBC series CITY OF VICE.

Traffic around any large, or even moderately large, city these days almost defies description.  So when I was driving around L.A. for a few days last fall, even after not having done so in years, it seemed appropriately bad in spots, but not worse than I'd pictured.  The one mind-boggling spot was indeed on the 405.  There is, or was, all that construction going on up on the crest around Mulholland, but what I observed, or thought I observed, was that the number of open lanes was still more generous than on many busy roads in other cities, and it was never possible to actually identify a true reason for the bottleneck.  And then you'd get to some magical point (I was southbound) where it all just suddenly breaks wide open and normal speeds were possible...while still no discernible reason for THAT was in evidence.  Maddening.  If I "carried", I'd be making road rage headlines.

I got a call yesterday asking if I could possibly sub for a pianist for one night in November, for I LOVE YOU, YOU'RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE.  It's a local community theater production and I know not one soul who's involved, so no guesses as to quality.  But I don't know the show, so would have to crash-learn it and play one rehearsal and one performance.  That would at least be good experience so I'm thinking about it, as I should give them an answer today.

BK --

These exciting current and upcoming activities no doubt knock out the possibility of any East Coast BK appearances for a while.  Do you have any idea when you might be getting back to NY or DC next?

It's set up as if the audience is at a taping of two episodes:  The Benefit (Ethel wants Ricky to perform at her Women's Club Benefit --apparently Lucy was not a member of the Wednesday Afternoon Fine Arts League at that time!).  This the episode when Lucy and Ethel consider donning a horse costume.  And Lucy upstages Ricky in Under the Bamboo Tree by delivering the punchlines to the jokes.

The other show is Lucy Has Her Eyes Checked.  Ricky's friend Bill Parker (Parker Preps Prod for Pitt Preem") is looking for actors for his new Broadway show (The Mertzes do the Varsity Drag and Lucy does the jitterbug with "King" something.

There were several commercials (BrylCreem), Chevrolet, Alka Seltzer and others.

It was a lot of fun!
