George what a shame to lose your local playhouse

I hadn't been directly involved with them for quite a while, so it's not as difficult for me, personally...but still, it's a loss for Olympia.

Is anyone watching "House of Cards"?  Because I started, and I'm hooked.

You're referring to the Kevin Spacey version? I watched season 1. I was a big fan of the BBC version with Ian Richardson, which I still prefer. The two versions are different enough that I think someone could enjoy both.

You may well think that; I couldn't possibly comment.

And why the heck not??

I loved the original British House of Cards , all three series and really enjoyed the first season of the Kevin Spacey/American version.  I have not yet watched the second season  but am looking forward to it

Too many to list, but at the top would be Joel McCrea and Veronica Lake, two of my favorites.  Many underappreciated directors - Frank Perry, Anthony Mann, Preminger, Martin Ritt, etc.  Way too many movies.

Yes, I agree with Veronica Lake; she was great in "I Married a Witch".  The director, Rene Clair, also directed the best version of "Ten Little Indians" ("And Then There Were None").  To tie in with the Irish flavor theme of the other day, Barry Fitzgerald was excellent in that film.

You didn't mention the best film of them together ;)

Sorry, forgot all about "Sullivan's Travels"!

I got on a Jules Dassin kick recently, and within the past few weeks have watched Brute Force, Thieves Highway, Night and the City, and, just now, Rififi.  Of those, I'd only ever seen the latter before.  Great stuff.

"Topkapi" is a very enjoyable caper film.  Also, "Never on Sunday".  Both star Dassin's wife, Melina Mercouri, and both have great music by Manos Hadjidakis.  Not to be a commercial placement item, but the "Topkapi" soundtrack was released on Kritzerland.

I have but vague memories of those later ones, and I need to revisit them in my adult life... something I'm sure will begin any day now.   :)

Vixdad and I really enjoyed Gravity  We saw it in the theatre in IMAX/3D and I think that  added to the experience

and we particularly like space stuff -

Well, I'm going home.  I've been here almost long enough...that's what vacation time is for. :D

Until later!

I'm back from a fun dinner meeting with a singer - I'll be putting an act together for her - looks like maybe three or four acts for different people this year.

Sunday at 7 is turning out to be a tough sell, because it's Oscar night it seems, PLUS we're video-ing that night - so if anyone on HHW [or castrecl] wants a ticket (as the show's guest, that is), just email me by Thursday afternoon and I'll send you back a confirm that your ticket will be waiting for you.   It's a 30-minute one-act show, so should be plenty of time to get home for the Oscars if you're in NYC!

Wish I could see it.  I wish I could go to New York, period.
