Hi TCB,

The wifi here is problematic too.  I depend on the kindness of strangers (the main office) to produce a strong enough signal for my computer to pick up.  Some days, if it's windy, I can't get a signal that is consistent.  I don't have the fast connection I would rather have, but at the current price, I guess I shouldn't complain.

Dan, even those of us paying top dollar for broadband have problems with it. I dislike Time Warner, but I do usually have good broadband. I will cheer when technology has obsoleted the cable companies.

Watching Betty Hutton in "The Stork Club." Not a great movie, but the music's fun.

You know, it's amazing how wonderful and inviting a name like "Texas Roadhouse" sounds when you're sitting here hungry and wishing there was something in the house you really wanted to eat.

What a nutty day.  I got up at about ten-fifteen and at ten-forty Grant called and asked where I was - he was at the paperback show and I was supposed to be there signing at eleven.  Same thing happened last year, only I missed it altogether.  So, I got ready as quickly as I could, then thankfully thought to just jot down the address in Mission Hills before I left - that was smart because for the first time ever, the show wasn't being held there but in Glendale.  So, I put the address in my phone and headed out - much shorter trip - unfortunately, I put Blvd. instead of Rd. and I went about five miles out of my way to a residential street.  But I still got there by eleven-twenty and sat for forty minutes - I sold one book and gave out several autographs to boot.  Sat next to a fantasy writer named James Blaylock who seems to have written a huge number of books.  On the other side, was some guy who wrote a bio of Bob and Ray.  I had fun, Grant sat by me, and then I looked around the show, before leaving for the theater.

Has anyone watched ELEVENTH HOUR? It's a British series with Patrick Stewart, which apparently ended after one season. I find it quite good.

Yup.  Unfortunately Bryan can only get one confirmed day off of work.  At least they didn't put him on the all night shift before his day off.  That has happened.  At the end of his shift he still works an additional 1-3 hours.

. . . . On the other side, was some guy who wrote a bio of Bob and Ray. . . .

I love Bob and Ray!  I would read that book voraciously.  From Approximately Coast to Coast, It's Bob and Ray has been read and loved by me for many years.   A recent issue of "Nostalgia Digest" had a cover story on Bob and Ray, which of course I also had to read.

We have gone to visit my inlaws in July and the days are wonderfully long - sun up at 4:30 and sunset after midnight -- but it never gets warmer than 70, or 75 F  which would be lovely if it was  a three month summer like here, but it  is a short short summer -- they often have snow into late May and as early as  late August

Re Mitch Leigh - I'm going to say one word - I will not elaborate on the one word, so don't ask.  The word is - karma.

Is it because of "Nobody Doesn't Like Sara Lee" and the resultant curse put upon him by Jenny Craig?

Interesting section of the NY Times obituary for Mr. Leigh:

"In his later years he ventured into real estate in a memorable way, creating Jackson 21, a village-like development in Jackson Township, N.J., on land he had begun buying in the 1960s as a tax shelter. The development was intended for artists of all kinds, Mr. Leigh said, though others were accepted as well.

But he had one stipulation, as he made clear in his television commercials — in which he starred, looking a bit like Quixote — and other promotions: “If you’re not a nice person, don’t call.” "
