Here is a simple test you can give someone to check for cognitive problems that may indicate the likelihood of Alzheimer's onset:

Uh-oh.

I didn't even have the courage to open it.

My library has my book request in.  I need to finish the book I'm reading before checking out The Divergent Series Two-Book Collection: Insurgent & Divergent.  I will need everyday I can get to read the two books together, unless I don't like book one in which case I won't read the sequel.

From notification my hold is ready I have 72 hours to check it out before the hold is canceled.  I received the email 18 hours ago so I still have plenty of time left to finish my current book.

And a job just came through! A very interesting one that will be fun. Don't know how much work yet. Some of the work will be adapting existing charts to fit the size of the orchestra for the concerts in Australia. Some new orchestration as well.   For Faith Prince and Anthony Warlow.

WONDERFUL!!!!!  :)

Yes...and if you can put in a word of caution, tell Mr. Warlow his previous recordings have WAY too much reverb and his voice does not need that (so-called) enhancement.

You tell him that. I'm being paid to do my work, smile, and look nice.  I'm working on a concert, not a recording.

TOD:

On April 3, 1974, Louisville was besieged by tornadoes and we spent most of a 24-hour period in our basement with nothing but the lights on. I would have been 11 at the time. It was too dangerous, in my parents' opinion, to listen to the radio or watch a TV, so we had nothing to do but be bored. Thankfully, our area was not hit, but many of the neighborhoods around ours was.

I remember someone from school coming over to work on a class project more than a month after this happened. His neighborhood had been severely hit, and he couldn't get over all the trees we still had. The street at that time was lined with massive old oaks, many more than 30 feet tall. A number of those have been cut down in the intervening years because of age and disease, but the street is still shady and tranquil thanks to the ones that are left.

Finished watching the Edie DVDs Adams today. The best segment was an extended Kurt Weill medley that she did with Bobby Darin -- and it did not include Mack the Knife or her theme song, which was from "Marie Galante." They just started singing some songs with intros like Bobby saying, "And here's one from 'Street Scene' ..." before launching into "Moonfaced, Starry-Eyed" as if everyone knew the show and the song. Then Edie would sing "Surabaya Johnny" in German or "Thousands of Miles" from "Lost in the Stars" and they ended up dueting on "Here I'll Stay" from "Love Life." It went on for about 15 minutes.

We have AMERICAN HUSTLE to watch tonight.  I'm not sure I will enjoy the story.

Last night, I watched "Saving Mr. Banks".

AMAZING!

WONDERFUL!

And of all (deservedly) lauded performances in the film, I was unprepared for the wonderful supporting role by Colin Farrell!

I thought it was Farrell's best work. And I loved Paul Giamatti.

I just scrubbed the tub and put the last rug in the dryer. All I have left to do is clean off the scale and put away the vacuum.

I posted that earlier; about a week. Everything has to dry. Simon, the neighbor above me, stopped in to check on me and the mess. He's a good man, Australian, and he's finally got some work in a law firm. He and his wife moved to the States for her job. She's a DNA scientist, I think.

Everything is done except for the rug. I'm about to have my first food today.

Great news!  Faith Prince was the commencement speaker when Rob graduated from the University of Cincinnati.

Congratulations!

I feel better now....I re-read the posts to see how I missed the time frame when I had been looking so carefully for the details.  It was during my mild migraine so I have an excellent excuse ;)

Hello All:

TOD:

NATURAL DISASTERS:

In January of 1977, Buffalo had one of the worst blizzards on record.

I was working at the time, we were let out early.  I was in Downtown Buffalo.  People were literally falling and sliding down the sidewalks in front of me.  I was headed for City Hall were my Aunt Betty was working.  I couldn't see two feet in front of me.

Two guys in a Four wheel Drive vehicle told me to get in.  I did, they saved my life.  We ended up going to eat at a restaurant (still open), then slept at their office.  Then they drove me home.

I ended up dating one of them.    After a few dates, he told me he was married.  I said "Don't ever call me again".

Wow, the things one learns on HHW!

Yes, I was actually staying at our Aunt Betty's house.  My college had already cancelled classes that day so I was not out in the blizzard.  Betty had to stay overnight in her office and got a ride as far as the corner of her street and walked the rest of the way.  That was certainly a memorable winter.   The normal snowfall for a season in Buffalo is about 100 inches and as I recall that year the total was 199.

Hello all DRs and Mr. BK!
I had much cleaning up to do today following yesterday's no water and the Big Non-Boiled St. Patty's Day Meal I had made, and with two houseguests to boot.

Frank Rich has written a long, but gripping account of "Act One" and Moss Hart.
