Does anyone have the book, HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY?

I was going to pick it for my book group discussion in May and was requested to save this for summer reading.  I don't really want to because I can't decide on anything else.

How thick is the book?

Have a UK first edition right here (the true first) - it's 651 pages

Well, this is pretty cool..."Richard M. Sherman and Alan Menken: The Disney Songbook" - Part 1, Richard Sherman and Part 2, Alan Menken. :D

And on that note (A-natural), I'm off.  Time to head home and watch some TV.

Be back later.

Thursday.  I gave my sister Molly her early birthday present, a nice tablet computer with a keyboard like the one I bought myself - only hers has a lavender case.  She likes it very much and played on it all afternoon.

We also went to Goodwill, where I found a print or drawing of a shi-tzu that looks just like Precious, so I bought it to hang on the wall....very nice....price was nice, too.

I want to be your sister.  :)

Ginny and Richard, I hope you enjoy the festivities!!

So far, so fun, DR Vixmom!  We got a call about 7 hours ago from Kathy (sister-in-law) who said, "We're at Reading Terminal Market and it's fabulous!  Get yourselves in a taxi and get over here!"  We left so abruptly I forgot to log out.  We closed that place down at 6, chilled in the lobby of the hotel where her family is staying, then headed to dinner at an outstanding Italian place.  There we finally got to meet the bride, who is lovely and very poised meeting more and more of the extended family she's marrying into.  Much wine was consumed and there was a lot of lively conversation.  And we are exhausted!

I always looked forward to Christmas. I looked forward to all the family at Easter until the year the family all piled into a couple different cars while I was in the bathroom at the church and I came out and they were gone. It's funny, I remember that almost every year. It wasn't intentional, but I wasn't that old and it was most unpleasant

The big decision I made this week is that I am going to move my office into my current library/conference room and make my current office the conference room.  Since Bob has been in the office we've noticed that sound travels in really weird ways.  I can hear him and he can hear me very very well. It's loud enough that it's a distraction.  And we've noticed that you can hear what we say in the lobby unless we keep our doors shut all the time.   SO, if I move to the conference room, I can't hear him and he can't hear me. Plus we are getting a door to put on the open doorway to the lobby.  My lease is up in January and if this doesn't work, we have a real problem staying in the space.   I really believe this will solve the problems. And I'll have a really cool office and the conference room will be a bright sunny place.  Win Win

I'm enjoying the singing on some of the Sondheimas, but the religiosity doesn't strike me as very funny, just tired.

I had a follow-up visit with my oncologist yesterday.  Everything seemed okay save for the blood work results which were pending.  Well, I was able to see them online this morning along with a note from the doctor.  She told me that she is concerned that my white blood cells have not yet reached the low end of normal range.  Because of that, I had to move my next appointment from late May to late April and to have more blood work in 2 weeks.  If my white blood cells are still low in that CBC, I will likely undergo a bone marrow biopsy (I've lost count how many I've had all this past year and they don't get any easier with experience).  My oncologist knows that the chemotherapy was intense and really knocked the heck out of my bone marrow.  I'm just worried if the marrow doesn't improve and/or there is a relapse of the lymphoma, I would then need to have a marrow transplant.  That scares me very much because that is the ultimate that can be done.  My thoughts race ahead of me and I know I have the tendency to think doom and gloom.  Sometimes it is difficult to put on a happy face, to borrow a phrase.

DR Dan M, I understand the difficulty of putting on a happy face.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.

German Lutheran good. You can ask Vixmom (I don't actually know the German part) or me (definitely both).

Back from the touring company of The Gershwin's Porgy & Bess.  It was OK.  I assume it was a fairly accurate rendition of the production that recently played on Broadway. The singing was uniformly good. Even though I have never seen another staged production, though, I kept feeling that everything was "cut down." I have to check the program to see how many musicians were in the orchestra, but it sounded thin. The chorus was reduced to about 12 singing actors. The re-written book seemed a bit thin, and I know material was cut, as the entire show with intermission was 2.5 hours. So I will have to seek out a complete recording to get a better sense of the piece as the Gershwins wrote it.
