Back from a very good and fun lunch. Had the short stack (two pancakes) - great, and tried the mac-and-cheese, which was really good.
So, here's the next question open for discussion: From the early 1970s, we had a critic in LA named Rob Stevens. Really nice guy, and always very good to me. In the 80s, he began doing the Robby Awards, which were always great fun - it was a little yearly event, with performances and awards, and it's where I discovered Michelle Nicastro. Robby got burned out on all of it and moved to San Diego a decade ago. Recently he moved back to LA and he's been reviewing for some tiny site called Stage Happenings - he reviewed the March Kritzerland show and has a rave for last Sunday's show that frustratingly hasn't been posted yet. That's a recurring problem at these "review" sites - they're not run professionally.
So, here's my idea: We bring Robby and his reviews and maybe even resurrect the Robby Awards, right here to haineshisway.com - under the "Now Playing" section we already have built. He would review shows - and wouldn't be like 90% of the other LA reviewers in that he would not automatically give raves - he would review fairly to his taste. He's already on a bunch of press lists and I'm sure we can get him on all the others. Like Donald's radio show, this would be his own corner of the site and given how much traffic we get here, which is HUGE compared to any of the home grown tiny theatre sites, which mostly were started by actors so free tickets could be had, he'd actually have a built-in audience.
What do you think?
