FOR THOSE WHO DON'T SPEAK FRENCH

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were in English for those who don't speak French, and now it is time for you to post until the French cows come home.

DR Nurse Jane

The doctor wanted to wait and see about the shoulder which I thought was stupid. They could have done it at the same time. I told them that too.

Hey, Sing, not only did you see someone you know in Shrek, you saw someone you didn't know but someone I know.

Papa Bear is played by my nephew, Joe McLaughlin!

ON WEDNESDAY

BK SAID

I played Banjo twice - both times at LACC but more than a decade apart - second time as a guest artist.  The role is grand fun, especially if you embrace the Harpo-ness of it.

Would any young person even know who Harpo was or who any of the other characters in the play are supposed to be?

Or do I have weep for the upcoming theatrical generation? :'(

Good morning, all.

I seem to have the weekend totally free.  Which is nice, because the coming week will be busy enough.

Also just decided to blow off this week's book sale, which is about to open its doors.  It's another one I like, but it's a schlep and for all the "treasure" I'm likely to find, I decided the time spent on things that need doing around here will make me feel a hell of a lot better.

Coffee!

Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend, DR John G.

Vibes to DR Ginny for this rough patch.  Here's hoping for an upswing soon.

Yesterday afternoon I sharpened a pencil and sat me down in front of the Big Speakers to take down a few altered sung phrases from AVENUE Q, only to discover that they're in fact singing exactly what's in the printed score.  Rather, one of the printed scores.  There are three or four points where some obvious revision took place, and while we're performing it per the rental material, we wanted to deviate in just one little place, which is actually the most minor, insignificant change of all of them.

Fortunately for moi, a PDF score that someone found reflects exactly what's on the original cast CD and an early (ahem) DVD, so -- voila! -- my work is done before it begins!  If only life could be like that all the time.

For those with a sharp eye and an appreciation for subtlety, I conformed to the topic of the day by cleverly embedding a bit of French in the above post.

Of course, I am remiss in not coming here first with silly questions about a show.  Between DRs Elmore, FJL, Ben, BK, etc., it's always possible someone knows something that would help.

How about that, DR Ben!  What a small world.  Joe (and the entire cast) was excellent!

Sigh.  I wish that I had taken French in school, instead of Spanish.  Going into choral music, the French would have been a lot more handy.

It's sad, though, that even at the Community Theatre level, they have microphones. You can see the mic on the man who's not my nephew. I don't know who he plays, perhaps the Donkey.

Good morning, all!  I've bathed, answered emails, and I'm on my first cup of coffee. Things seem rather quiet on West 82nd Street this morning.

At 1:00, I will see MR CONFIDENTIAL at the New York Musical Theatre Festival because I have several friends involved in the production. That's my only obligation this weekend, and that fine with me.

DR Ginny, I was sorry to read about your difficulties with an aging parent. I remember in 2006 how happy I was when my dad was released from intensive care and I could take him home; fifteen minutes later I wanted to leave him on the side of the road. I have no comfort only cold facts: it won't get better. I do send hugs,
