It has been turned into a very swanky restaurant by the name of The Penthouse.
Same gorgeous view of the coastline, but very expensive now.
It's on 2nd St. in Santa Monica.

That's The Cholo, for those that don't speak Spanish.

T.O.D.

#1 (without question) Waverly Wafers!  When I was a child, the first thing I would do when we went out to dinner was to check the cracker basket on the table.  If they didn't have Waverly Wafers, I knew I wasn't going to like the dinner.  Of course, I still ate the dinner, whether I liked it or not, becasue I was a pig.

#2 Sociables - with sliced cheddar or cheese spreads.

#3  Ritz Crackers - Good old reliable Ritz.

Thank you for solving the mystery Dear Lurker Iris.  I don't remember the Huntly Hotel but I wish I had eaten there.

Has anyone tried "Mary's Gone Crackers"?
They are organic, gluten-free, vegan, and absolutely delicious.
Check 'em out.

Hi Jane!
I stayed at The Huntley many times because it was the hotel where airline crews were based.
Feel fortunate to have been able to enjoy that experience.

On my way to see "A Most Wanted Man", the last film starring the late Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Wishing everyone a good evening.

The hotel looks nice.  I would like to stay there, maybe one day.  The prices of nice hotels in LA & Santa Monica are very high these days.

Toppers was the Mexican restaurant on the top floor of The Huntley Hotel in Santa Monica.

!!!!!

Wow!  Thanks!  When both Jane and BK didn't recognize it, I was thinking it really must have been someplace else.

That's incredible.  And fantastic.  Thanks so much, DR Dear Lurker Iris!    :)

And it really was good, eh?  I know I thought so then.  And for whatever reason, we never got around to returning.  But I always remembered it.

Keith and I didn't have much money for eating out and then we moved to the valley.  We still didn't have much money for eating out but when we did it was mostly in the Valley.

For Mexican food on the West side it was Rebozo's and only Rebozo's.

Ginny, what you're going through is so difficult! Hugs and vibes to you and your mom.

Thank you, DR Jeanne.  Richard and I went to check on her about 6 and she's in a better frame of mind today.  She had on different clothes than yesterday and had put away some of the things I'd left on her kitchen counter.

We regrouped here at home with Rob and Mary Linda and we all went to the local Greek church for dinner at their annual festival.  The others had lamb and I had fish.  Yummy, as always - Opa!

I've been home all day, doing nothing but watching TV, burning DVDs, showering, eating and feeding my cat...not necessarily in that order.  I now have to leave for the theater for our final evening performance of "The Tempest."  There will either be a cast party tonight after the show, or tomorrow after the strike.  Either way, it's going to be a long rest of the evening, "Tempest"-wise.  I probably won't be able to ketchup until tomorrow evening, so have a good rest of the day, everyone!!

It was a sign to me that she'd been up and about.

Different clothes, I would say so.  Do you normally have to put things away for her or do you intentionally leave them for her to do?

I make sure stuff that needs to be in the freezer or refrigerator gets there, but otherwise I just leave it on the counter (food) or her bed (paper goods & cosmetics) and she takes care of it.  She's having trouble accepting her limitations, so I try to let her do for herself what she can.

Good idea.  Is she also having trouble dressing?  Soon might she need a helper twice a day?

Getting her to accept that kind of help is a challenge.  She moved to the retirement community so help would be available when she needed it.  Now that she does, she doesn't trust anyone enough to give up her privacy to them.

Too bad.  It would also be company for her to have someone drop in twice a day.

The Huntley is where much of Point Blank was filmed - it was new back then.

Rebozo's was the best Mexican food anywhere, anytime - it put everything else to shame.  I have never had a better beef taco than there and I've never actually had one that even approaches it in flavor.  Oh how I miss that jernt.

I literally cannot find ANYTHING about Rebozo's online.  It's like it never existed.  Damn them, damn them all to hell.
