But before I go...

DR Jane, by soda I mean plain club soda, not something like ginger ale or 7-Up.  Scotch 'n' soda is very good for indigestion.

And there's a Kingston Trio song with that title.

The Manhattan Transfer recorded Scotch and Soda when Laurel Massé was their soprano.  HERE is a live performance on The Old Whistle Test.

And another drink song that they sang:  Blue Champagne.  And HERE is "Blue Champagne" with Cheryl Bentyne singing soprano.

Well, the TV service has been out for at least 23 hours today. Thank you, Time Warner!

Larry, HERE is a message from Comcast about their merger with Time Warner.

(It's actually from Funny or Die, so it's not really from Comcast.  FYI:  this is the uncensored version.)

I like the song.  The drink is much bigger with soda added.  My little shot doesn't amount to much.

Oh, yes, DR ChasSmith, Mom has Scotch every night and I have to admit that I'm her enabler.  In fact, one of the reasons she's dragging her feet over moving to assisted living is that she's afraid they'll take it away from her.

At her age, that's not enabling. I have a Facebook friend whose mother is past 100 and he posts pictures of her every week enjoying a fried shrimp plate. At her age, it's one of the joys of her life.

Maybe if everyone had a few drinks...

I celebrated the TOD by having a Negroni earlier. Along with a plate of fried chicken and waffles. Happy.

Very strange day at work today. There was so much to do, I felt as if I got nothing done. But I was constantly in motion. I think some things got moved off my desk, but I can't tell that.

I agree.  Have you spoken to the people at assisted living about this?

DR Jane, I've talked casually with the social worker for independent living, where she is now.  We both think she'd find asststed living really annoying.

I used to drink a lot in my younger days.  I don't drink very often at all anymore, although baseball and beer jut seem to go together.   I like a cosmo, or a margarita, or a white wine, or a peach fizz, or ...it totally depends on my mood.  I had a scotch phase, but I'm not much interested anymore.  I do think a good Vodka on the rocks is nice.  It does have a taste. I used to keep a bottle of Stolie in my freezer.

I want to return to the Algonquin with you and have their Algonquin cocktail.
That was fun.

I'm trying to decide if I want to go to the casino tonight.  The Hard Rock just opened downtown last week.  I went in for lunch and had a really good burger, but I haven't been there at night.  They have a blues singer tonight, Carlos someone. the ad says he's the model for the blues brothers.   I'm not really into gambling.  I think I only went to the riverboat casino once or twice in the last 15 years.   They do have some fun rock memorabilia and the place has been packed with people every day.   It's weird to go in and you feel like you're in Vegas and then you walk out and you're in Iowa, lol

But you MUST go! We want a picture of the carpet!

LOL< I completely forgot to take a picture of the carpet.  There was no carpet in the room I was in, just a painted cement floor.  I'll get a picture next time I go.

I have always been very reticent about alcohol because I was afraid I'd like it (too much). I'm not sure why, as there was no alcoholism in my family. But I've never particularly cared for the taste, and it seemed to be a lot of trouble to go to. Same with coffee.

I had a great time tonight.  It wasn't Carlos...it was Curtis Salgado.  He was fabulous.  I love the blues and I don't know why I hadn't heard of him before.  The band was fantastic. The room needs some sort of acoustic panels somewhere. It's all cement, brick and metal and the sound was too hot or live or whatever you call it.  The band even commented on it

My parents and their friends drank a lot when I was growing up.   My dad still offers a drink to everyone who comes over.  It's just always been around, so I don't think much of it.

Thanks to all for the Opening Night vibes.  The audience was most enthusiastic, and there were many new people there who then had questions about season tickets and auditions for next year....so that is good.

I also reserved MANY tickets for the next few performances....and the girls did wear their wigs for the finale.....so all is well.
