TAKING THE BULL BY THE HORNS
« on: August 11, 2014, 12:10:49 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, the notes took the bull by the horns, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently trying to take the bull by the horns just for the sake of amusement.

Cannot fall asleep.  But that resulted in seeing a wonderful e-mail from my pal Bruce Vilanch, who will be our guest star for our anniversary show.  So happy.

Good morning, all.

Early, but not as early as it might have been.  I was awake at 5:18 in the a.m., knew I wasn't getting back to sleep, but made myself stay in bed and relax for an hour.

Coffee!

What the heck is Antenna TV?

It's an OTA (Over the Air) channel that is also picked up by some cable providers. It's usually one of the sub-channels on a broadcast station in a city. We have it as a sub-channel of WPIX Channel 11. We also have "This TV" as part of the Channel 11 mix. Antenna plays series from the 50s through the 80s, some good, some not so good. They play The Partridge Family on the weekends, along with Gidget and The Flying Nun. Here is the home page with a list of the shows they run and where they are in various cities around the country.

Good morning, all! I finally decided that staying in bed forever was not the solution, so I am dressed, the bed is made, and i will sn head down to Toyland to schlep some things home.

I had some bad news on Saturday that sent me into a talspin: I've been working on scanning the JUBILEE full scores in hopes that funding might be raised to record the show or that Encores! at some point will do it, but I was told Encores! will never perform the show because the woman running City Center knows nothing about musicals and rejects all shows she does not know, which is most of them. So, by Sunday morning, my attitude was, maybe i should stop scanning the scores and just throw the whole mess into the garbage; it's clearly never after nearly 30 years, going to do anything for my vanishing career, so WTF?

On a more positive note than something I once did really well gathering dust, I'm getting out of Dodge ASAP. I will carry a few more items hme from Toyland today, and I hope to have all the heavy lifting finished by Labor Day. I will call Bruce Pomahac today and see if I can get some help transferring the DEAREST ENEMY materials back to Rodgers & Hammerstein.

DR John G, I wonder if Luca Della Casa is related to the wonderful opera star Lisa Della Casa?

That really was a great dance number.

Today its more about acrobatics; flips and tumbles and using the arms and legs and standing upright and doing.

It's a shame that The American Dance Manchine disbanded after I believe the death of its founder Lee Theodore.

This woman's stupidity may be a stumbling block, but it certainly doesn't de-legitimize the fine work that you have done.

Thank you, DRs singdaw and vixmom; I have no idea if this rumor is true, but i'd heard it over a year ago - from someone on the Encores! board - as the reason why Encores! has never done The Golden Apple, which is one of their most requested shows, with Jubilee and a couple of others. The news about the Cole Porter show was a bombshell on Saturday, and it really flummoxed me.

One more

Donna McKechnie and Michael Bennett

The Music and the Mirror.

It was designed for her and I've seen many Cassies over the years and none have quite matched Ms. McKechnie

DR John G, I wonder if Luca Della Casa is related to the wonderful opera star Lisa Della Casa?

It amazes me that someone who is the head of an organization like Encores has no idea about Musical Theater History or Heritage.

Does the ditz hold the purse strings?

As for Jubilee don't throw it away. One day someone will come to their senses.

DSR Michael Shayne, you read the post incorrectly. She is not the "head of am organization like Encores!" She is the general director, CEO, or some such title, of City Center.  She is where the buck stops, I gather, for anything occurring at City Center.
