Merry Christmas Eve to All!
I have been in South Carolina since December 16th. The past week has been fraught with nothing out of the ordinary and much of the same routines as those of yesteryear's Christmases. Another trip to Spartanburg to place flowers on graves, another fabulous lunch at
Wade's Restaurant in Spartanburg, another shopping trek to a mall outside Spartanburg for a Costco run and shopping for clothes for me. Sigh.
And rain. Lots of rain. Plenty of rain. Rain, rain, rain! Who am I? Joan Crawford? Somerset Maugham?
No. Just me in South Carolina at Christmas time.
The First Baptist Church of Johnston has FINALLY seen the light on its Christmas Eve candlelight service: To wit, it will now be at 5 p.m. vice 6 p.m. So many folks who wanted to attend could not because of conflicting family do's with which the 6 p.m. service conflicted.
Today at 5 p.m, my mom, my Aunt Doris and I will attend the service and then go to my cousin Debra's for our annual Christmas Eve dinner. Tomorrow, the family will gather at my aunt's and uncle's house (across the street from us) in the afternoon.
I don't fly out until early Monday morning, so there will be much time for reflection on Christmas and everything that gets said or done.
Tonight, my mom and I open presents. Hopefully, I will "sleep in" tomorrow. I've been getting up at 6:30-6:50 a.m. every day. Naps are a necessity with all the early rising (early because I'm on vacation). My mom has a routine, and I dasn't interrupt it more than I already do.
Have successfully been fighting off a head cold, but the jury is out on how many more rounds I can last. It's always on the fringes, it seems.
I wish each and every one of you a wonderful holiday observance (or observances, dependent upon your beliefs).
