I much prefer reading them, not just for the comments on the item under review, but for what it tells me about the reviewer himself.

What do amazon reviews tell you about the reviewers?

Sometimes, quite a lot, depending on how much they post.

Good morning, all.

At nine o' the clock last night I suddenly sneezed, and by ten I had a very light but noticeable scratchy throat.  I went to bed and had a pretty good solid sleep, but I still feel the effects of those things.  Not badly.  But they're there.  And that just isn't right.  Did I not have a cold just two months ago?  Why, yes, I did!  Just not right.  No sir.  I'm still hopeful I can fight this one off.

Coffee!

~~~Stay Well Vibes for DR ChasSmith!!~~~
My Mac Man is here, and my computer is back and running with one major hitch: it does not want to connect to the internet.  He's stymied, I'm very unhappy, and I must decide the next step.
Tonight is the final two episodes of THE COMEBACK.....we shall see what happens.  I like the show a lot....and I think Lisa Kudrow is brilliant in the show.
DR DRUXY did you like BLACK SAILS?  I gave up on it.  For a pirate show, they sure spent a LOT of time on shore.  I wanted more ship time.  Each episode goes something like this:
Long conversation in town.
Long conversation in bar.
Lots of girls take off their tops.
Long conversation outside.
Shot of the ship.
More conversation inside.
Different girls take off their tops.
Shot of the ship.
Shot of the ocean.
Shot of pirate flag.
The end.
I thought at times at Sandy reminded me of the late great Michelle Nicastro  in her rendition of "What Do I Do Now?", and I thought Lanny's chart was a lot of fun. It was nice to hear a different take on the number.
Now, with "Here On Earth," I'll start with me and the show in 2006; it was the last song I scored for the production because I felt it was as good a number as my favorite song from IT'S A BIRD, A PLANE . . ., Lois Lane's lament "Oh, how I wish I weren't in love with Superman." Both of these gentle character songs walk a fine line between the seriousness of the character and the silliness of the situation, and I wanted to get my head around the show and the band before I camped up the number or simply tarted it up.  What surprised me about Sandy's rendition is that it's not so funny out of the context of the show - occasional limes declare it's not a song for a pop 40 listening audience - and Lanny's easy chart supports it nicely.
To be catty, he had 35 players, and I had five or six!
Your orchestration is wonderful for that song and perfect for the show itself.  Lanny went a slightly different way.  And re the comedy - it's always out of left field in Here on Earth - I worked really hard to have those handful of lines not stick out in any way so that when they happen it just takes you by surprise :)
Since I don't know BK's MO working with Lanny on this, I don't know how much input he had with intros and interludes, but there were spots in them - not in the vocal material - but in the accompaniments that reminded me of other writers.  I kept hearing "A Little Bit In Love" in the accompaniment to "I'm Here," which is really a gorgeous ballad, and some  Nino Rota in "Maybe Something More."  I really loved the intro to "It Doesn't Get Easier," which is really lovely.
There are also the wonderful trumpet in "Two Roads," a song that would have got for BK a Disney contract around 1968 since it's so good, reminiscent of a lot of the Sherman Brothers, but it still sounds like a BK tune to me, and the wonderful Broadway production number dance break in "Who Do I Have To Blank?"
And those are my thoughts on Lanny's contribution: always imaginative, mostly a bit wonderfully retro, and always so spot-on with the singer.
I let Lanny have his creativity - which is key - but I heard everything in advance, made comments and in certain cases he made adjustments.  His take on Maybe Something More was completely his and I do love it a lot.  The whistling at the end is, of course, our close personal friend Guy Haines.  The trumpet opening on Two Roads was all Lanny.  The intro to It Doesn't Get Easier in terms of its tune is me.  Loved reading your thoughts and they mean a lot to me!
Sunday afternoon greetings!  Today is our Christmas with Rob and Mary Linda, which started with the 10:30am service at their church.  When we got home, they put potatoes in their oven and I set the dining room table, from which we can see their Christmas tree.  Then we gathered around our tree in the family room to open presents.  When the potatoes were nearly done I broiled the bacon-wrapped filets and nuked some broccoli.  We opened a bottle of Christmas Red and warmed it, as advised on the label.  Dinner was delightful and for dessert we munched on cookies from Central Pastry in Middletown, fruitcake from Gethsemani Monastery in Kentucky, and homemade assorted chocolates from Mary Linda's grandmother's kitchen in Michigan.
Worked at the piano a bit, and prior to that I got about seven hours of sleep - really needed more.  But I had the new novel on the brain and did think of some stuff for its opening, so when I got up I wrote all that down.
Now we're taking a break, during which Richard is doing laundry, I'm watching football, Mary Linda is getting reacquainted with her cat, and Rob is napping (he goes to work at midnight).  In a couple of hours we'll go out to Mom's for round-robin stocking opening.  Hope she remembers we're coming...
I watched The Grand Budapest Hotel last night, which I had foolishly avoided - it was a most pleasant diversion.
