Back from a friend's restaurant opening. It's a burger joint. Burgers and malts always put me in a happy mood.

I love the Isaac Bashevis Singer things I've read, and he wrote a wonderful play that died in a really short Broadway run around 1980, Teibele and The Demon. I really loved it, but the critic did not. So, I looked forward to Lentl and really hated it: Shtetl by Laura Ashley.  I do remember that Amy Irving was absolutely gorgeous.

I have never read his rant about the film but I would like to.

LENTL!  I like that, Elmore.  Between your LENTL and my VELVITA, we are on our way to a full buffet.

Goodreads sent me an email asking if I want to read more books this year and with tips on how to do so.  I deleted the email ;D

DR lechienfou, Keith & I have gone to the parade a couple of times but never just to see the floats.  I wish we had done that.  We never took the children though which I would also liked to have done.

My dear friend Patsy, who owned the travel agency where I worked, has a sister that works every year on several of the floats for the Rose Parade.  Patsy went down and helped out one year.  Apparently, this year her sister's group won one of the major awards.

Congrats to TCB's DF Patsy's sister's group!

I've already read about 400 pages this year.  I really need to sleep tonight.  Last night I slept from midnight to 5:00am and then from 7:30-8:30 this morning.

Well, it's time to leave work and go to the theater for the first of the last two performances of "The HEAD! That Wouldn't DIE!"  We've already been talking about bringing it back in the fall, after the script and score have been tweaked a bit.  It's really been a good show for us (and no royalties REALLY helped)! :D

Until later!

TOD:

I just signed up again for Netflix.  Hopefully my first title (CHEF) will arrive on Saturday.

Is this the British show?  I LOVE that and may have to sign up with Netflix again if they do  have it.

Keith rented "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" for us to watch tonight.  I'm not really looking forward to it.  I hope I am wrong and like it.

So sorry to hear about Donna Douglas.

I don't know why but I find that I'm still reeling from Robin Williams passing.  I didn't even realize how much I liked him until he was gone.  He always had that twinkle in his eye--I NEVER would have guessed he was that sad inside.

  I will.

Guess those who are friends on Facebook have seen me post a lot of things about loom knitting.  It's my new hobby.  I'm just not good with knitting with the 2 needles but can make hats, scarfs, etc with the loom.  I share the posts that interest me so I can find them on my timeline when I don't have time to read the whole post.

Critic Rob Stevens, who's been reviewing LA theater longer than anyone, over forty years now, is bringing back his Robby Awards, something that began in the early 1970s and continued until a decade ago when Rob moved away.  He's been back for a year and has just announced the nominations - and to say I'm bowled over would be a grand understatement - Li'l Abner is up for NINE Robby Awards, including production, director, best actor and actress, best supporting actor (John Massey), musical direction, music and lyrics, costume design and Kay Cole for choreography.  And as if that wasn't enough bounty, three Kritzerland shows are up for best cabaret/concert performance - our female lyricists show, our April Fool's show and our tribute to Dorothy Fields.  And as if I needed even more icing on the cake, the Sandy Bainum Ira Gershwin show, which I created and directed is up, too.  And I'll tell you why it feels so nice:  Because in my forty four years in this business, I have never been nominated for anything having to do with the theater.  Yes, a Grammy nom, but this is just so much fun!  http://www.haineshisway.com/2015/01/the-29th-annual-robby-award-nominations-by-rob-stevens/

And what is especially gratifying is that other than Don Grigware, who did give a best musical event award to Li'l Abner, not ONE other critic could be bothered to see the show.
