Hmmm... That was strange... I hit "Post", and then a blank screen came up... Then I tried to navigate back to the posts page, and another blank page came back up.  And this "page" took a while to come up too - at least on my computer.  ???

Der Brucer and I have had quite a day.

It started with a phone call.  It seems that the owners of the little girl Dal pup are trying to reorganize their lives to accomodate the lass.  They're installing a fenced-in area, where the little pup can spend her days unattended.

Wrong idea.  Dals need people, and forcing them to spend their lives in cages, or in pens, is cruelty.  Yes, they need exercise, but they are very much people dogs.  These owners have no idea how bad they are for the dog.

This was followed by a trip around town, with Fletcher, to see various people.  First, we took him to see the people who run the local Wash-N-Wag, who also handle dog grooming.  The women there thought Fletcher was a doll, and they also sold der Brucer the right equipment for trimming doggy toenails.

Next was a visit to the woman who runs the local Dal Rescue operation.  She was thrilled to see Fletcher again, and gave us some extra advice about his medical needs.

Then we headed downtown.  We wanted to see another Dal lover, who owns a pet supply shop, but she wasn't at her store.  Instead, we took Fletcher for a walk around town.  There's a group of Greyhound owners holding a convention this weekend, with about 3000 dogs (and their people) expected to show.  We met a few of both breeds, and Fletcher was very friendly with everyone he met.

We then headed over to Cafe Zeus, where I'd promosed Chef Charles the loan of a book on railroad cooking and the DVD of Strangers on a Train.  Charles wasn't in, but his mate John met Fletcher, and they got along well.

I wanted to drop by the local bookstore, while der B. wanted to check out Aqua, the restaurant that held the Dog Rescue event a couple of weekends ago.  There wasn't anything interesting at either spot, so instead we headed over to the Blue Moon, for a drink on their front patio.  Fletcher was an absolute charmer with everyone he met.  He is definately a people dog.

Upon returning home, we've been contacted by some of the dog rescue people.  They're needing help placing a couple of dogs short term.  It looks like we'll soon be having houseguests.

Did I ever tell you about the time my mom and I met Rodney Dangerfield in Las Vegas? He was gambling at a slot machine while we were standing in line for Forever Plaid.

Glad to hear the the NYC gathering went well.  And DR Jane got a suite at the Wellington?  Nice.

Well... I'm a bit brain dead right now.  And I think I'm gonna go ahead and get ready for bed.  Technically, I'm "off" tomorrow, but tomorrow I have to start getting things ready for my upcoming trip to Houston.  Laundry, sorting, packing, etc.  And more practicing, of course.  -I need to get A Chorus Line back in my fingers now that I've gotten past the grunt work stage with The Producers.

Well... I can really tell that I'm teetering on the verge of comprehension... I think...  :P

Goodnight.

Re: L'il Abner
...The book, to my mind, is wonderful - the show is a period piece and I would keep it that way, and the fact that Mr. Mercer's then topical lyrics are so applicable to today's government would astonish people.
My point exactly, and hear hear!

I received a rather odd letter in the mail yesterday. The local funeral parlor is offering me a 5% discount if I have a funeral by the end of the month.
Are they specifying WHOSE funeral you have to hold?

Does anyone know how long to cook salmon steaks for?  In the oven?  Outside on the BBQ/grill?  If I did it outside would I have to put it in foil, or is the steak thick enough that I could do it directly on the grill?

I'm thinking I will probably do it inside, because I want to do ribs on the BBQ tomorrow, and I'm not sure how much gas is left in my BBQ.

Or I could poach them in the microwave.

I'm just not sure how long I'd put them for in the oven.  Usually I cook fish for like 20 minutes in the oven at around 375.  And outside i do it for 15.

I'm trying to find cooking times on allrecipes right now.
Rule of thumb is ten minutes per inch thickness.

Or is that ten minutes per side per inch of thickness.

Something's fishy around here.

What about going in a totally different direction?  How about David Hyde Pierce?? ::)
Interesting, but that would be in complete opposition to Al Capp's original ideas.  (Not that the very friendly Stubby Kaye wasn't in opposition to the total profiteer original.)

DHP as Evil Eye Fleegle?  Probably not.  But he'd make a good Avaliable Jones, inventor of Stufepfyin' Jones.

LOST continued with an excellent episode tonight. We continue to get backstory on various survivors that in shown in counterpoint with continuing developments on the island where they're trapped. A most intriguing series.
Dang, I missed it this time.  I'll have to catch up with the good stuff at one of the fansites.   :-\

I do indeed hope we have photographs that people will share with us.  I have finished Faherenheit 9/11 and shall now watch The Fearless Vampire Killers or It's Alive.
I remember It's Alive from my days as an usher at the Alex Theater, back before it was refurbished and became famous.

Go with The Fearless Vampire Killers.

Oh, Happy day when miracles take place
And scientists control the human race
When we assume authority of human chromosomes
And assembly-line women
Conveyor belt men
Settle down in push-button homes.

That's a sample for anyone here who isn't familiar with L'il Abner.

hello all!
I really have been keeping up with the notes, just been really bad about posting.  I'm still heavy into job hunting these days, and interviews are slowly but surely starting to happen.  I haven't given up hope yet! :)

Would anyone like to see a pic of myself, TCB, and DR Jed that I took when Jed and I went to see TCB in 10 Little Indians?  It is quite a nice picture, I must say...

My big news...I have two new babies!  Petrie and Piper are my new little sugar gliders.  I bought them about two weeks ago, and they are just lovely.  Petrie is quite shy still, but they are both starting to trust me more each day.  They are simply wonderful little pets.

If I may be allowed to post on yesterday's TOTD...my mother made the best raspberry jam and fresh pesto in the world.

Interesting fact about last night's debate...

When Edwards brought up Haliburton, Cheney said, "...The reason they keep mentioning Halliburton is because they're trying to throw up a smoke screen... They know the charges are false. They know if you go, for example, to factcheck.com, an independent website sponsored by the University of Pennsylvania, you can get the specific details, with respect to Halliburton."

That was a big booboo. Cheney meant to say factcheck.org.

The 'factcheck.com' site redirects viewers to a George Soros website, titled, "Why We Must Not Re-Elect George Bush."
In a "personal message" on the redirected factcheck.com website, Soros, the wealthy (HUNGARIAN-American) funder of liberal causes, says, "President Bush is endangering our safety, hurting our vital interests, and undermining American values."

Overheard on the street: "...So I just threw on some clothes and rushed out. I mean I wasn't ready dressing-wise."

Overheard tonight at Wendy's, from a woman who appeared to be in her early twenties, who was in a booth right behind me:  "....He's an old man, older than my mother...forty something."  Then a moment later:  "....He's (refering to a different gentleman) an old, old man...forty something, also." :o I almost spit out my diet Coke!

Fish:  Rule of thumb -- F 400 degree oven -- 10 minutes.

IF you want to turn it over, do it at the five-minute mark, but you shouldn't have to.
