Der Brucer and I have had quite a day.
It started with a phone call. It seems that the owners of the little girl Dal pup are trying to reorganize their lives to accomodate the lass. They're installing a fenced-in area, where the little pup can spend her days unattended.
Wrong idea. Dals need people, and forcing them to spend their lives in cages, or in pens, is cruelty. Yes, they need exercise, but they are very much people dogs. These owners have no idea how bad they are for the dog.
This was followed by a trip around town, with Fletcher, to see various people. First, we took him to see the people who run the local Wash-N-Wag, who also handle dog grooming. The women there thought Fletcher was a doll, and they also sold der Brucer the right equipment for trimming doggy toenails.
Next was a visit to the woman who runs the local Dal Rescue operation. She was thrilled to see Fletcher again, and gave us some extra advice about his medical needs.
Then we headed downtown. We wanted to see another Dal lover, who owns a pet supply shop, but she wasn't at her store. Instead, we took Fletcher for a walk around town. There's a group of Greyhound owners holding a convention this weekend, with about 3000 dogs (and their people) expected to show. We met a few of both breeds, and Fletcher was very friendly with everyone he met.
We then headed over to Cafe Zeus, where I'd promosed Chef Charles the loan of a book on railroad cooking and the DVD of Strangers on a Train. Charles wasn't in, but his mate John met Fletcher, and they got along well.
I wanted to drop by the local bookstore, while der B. wanted to check out Aqua, the restaurant that held the Dog Rescue event a couple of weekends ago. There wasn't anything interesting at either spot, so instead we headed over to the Blue Moon, for a drink on their front patio. Fletcher was an absolute charmer with everyone he met. He is definately a people dog.
Upon returning home, we've been contacted by some of the dog rescue people. They're needing help placing a couple of dogs short term. It looks like we'll soon be having houseguests.
