I got up onstage last night and couldn't remember many of my lines.....perhaps age IS more than just a number.

This is a very talented group of young performers....well college age.....they can be very funny.....and the show and songs are okay.....it just seems a bit rushed to me.

We have an "until we're done" rehearsal tonight, then Wednesday off....then performances Thursday and Friday....then DONE.....

Here is the dance from DWTS that I was talking about last night.  Derek Hough choreographed it (but is out with a broken toe and twisted ankle).

Page Two Rosalind Russell Dance.

They re-shot some of "Everything's Coming Up Roses" and instead of calling Wood and Malden back.....they used a photo of them pasted on a piece of plywood.....very noticeable if you watch the movie.

Good morning, all.

Thank you, all, for the job vibes. If it's not meant to be right now, then that's OK. The plate is overflowing at the moment.

Tony Nominations

This reminds me, I did not see any responses to my request for play recommendations for Keith's cousin.  Did I miss them?

Tuesday morning greetings!  After my 2 meetings yesterday, I'm glad to have a day at home to regroup and continue the great Momcave clean-up.

Slighted again......

I offer my annual Tony-snub ode:

Kiss your hopes goodbye
Take comfort in the dollars
They had luck, a shame for you
And do not forget
What you did got snubbed
What you did got snubbed

Why’d you even try
The voice inside you hollers
It’s all such a big to-do
So go on and fret
What you did got snubbed
What you did got snubbed

Gone, snubs are never gone
As you soldier on
The snub’s what you’ll remember

Kiss your hopes goodbye
As Nietzche taught the scholars
Good things come to very few
Get upset, go and fret
What you did got snubbed
What you did got snubbed
What you did got – Nothing.

Mark and I enjoyed Sami's performance very much! We loved all the new songs we'd never heard before and enjoyed the old ones too. I was quite surprised and pleased at how many new songs there were - they were super fun! It must be challenging to write from the viewpoint of a 14-year old. We look forward to seeing the show again when Sami's off-book and with the complete staging. :D I know we ran out kind of quickly afterwards, but we knew you didn't want comments and Mark's allergic to eggs and can't eat lemon meringue pie.  :-\

Tony Nominations

This reminds me, I did not see any responses to my request for play recommendations for Keith's cousin.  Did I miss them?

I don't remember replying.

These are all MY opinions and my opinions alone. They do not reflect the views of the theatre going public

Stay away from Living for Love if it's still running when Cousin is here. It will probably close very soon due to no nominations and mixed to bad reviews.

Wolf Hall is OK I was not thrilled by it but it's not bad. It's not a fabulous piece of work. It came with great notices and, I think, huge expectations. It's doing well but it's not the box office draw they thought it would be, methinks. It's always on TKTS and it's often on TDF. Based on word of mouth from London I thought it would become a sell out but it's not done that. It's not the huge success that Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nigh has been. It's well done British theatre but it's also PBS on stage.

I loved Something Rotten. A certain boob who works for the NYTimes didn't like it but that only confirms my opinion that he is, indeed, one of the biggest boobs writing reviews in New York.

I found The Visit to be slow, boring, tedious and, overall, tiresome. I know that other people are peeing their pants about it but I don't think it will last long after the Tony awards. I think the only reason it's still open is because they were waiting for the award announcements so they could play them up. The show runs between 95 and 100 minutes, no intermission and it's still TOO LONG!!! I don't remember a note of music from the show and a cast of excellent actors does not do their best work.

I'm of 2 minds about Fun Home. I think it has limited audience appeal. I also saw it downtown at the Public in the first incarnation. Everyone LOVED it but I was not taken by it. I much prefer the book (a bio of the lesbian cartoonist Alison Bechdel presented in graphic novel/comic book form). A couple of people said it's better after the move. If they are interested in seeing a show (with not so memorable music) about a lesbian growing up in a home with a closeted father they may enjoy it (I'm giving it short shrift I know but I'm just not crazy about the show).

I haven't seen On the 20th Century. It's hard to get discount tickets and if it's not on discount I don't see it.

Kevin saw The Audience and thought it was well worth full price. I probably won't see it because again, it's not discounted enough.

I may try and see Finding Neverland only because I love the movie. There are cheap balcony seats so I may try to see it before the Awards. It didn't get any nominations but it's doing very well so they can live without the nominations.

I didn't much care for It Shoulda Been You and I think it will close soon since it got no nominations. I am VERY surprised that Lisa Howard didn't at least get a nomination. She was wonderful in a not very good show. It's a sitcom musical with stars. The excellent cast tried their best but they couldn't save the not very good show. Again, I don't remember a note from the music and the book is a tired old sitcom plot with a twist that doesn't work (for me).

I have to get back to work. Perhaps I can post more later but that's it for now.

I have not seen Dr. Zhivago, Gigi or American in Paris. I have no desire to see any of these 3 shows. AIP got great reviews, the other 2 not so much but again, I have absolutely no interest in seeing any of them.

Those three shows seem like such a waste of time to me DR BEN......none of the movies was a particular favorite of mine either.

What I find interesting is that a PLAY is nominated for best choreography.  Did the DOG play have music and dancing.....or I guess I should ask HOW did the DOG play having music and dancing?

I haven't seen Curious so I'm not sure how it all works but according to a friend it's "choreographed" within an inch of it's life as part of the direction. Almost every movement has some meaning and is worked into the play. The Nominating Committee said that the "direction/choreography" could be considered for Best Choreography though I'm sure that award will go to An American in Paris

Thanks for the long post.  Keith's cousin can read reviews.  What is wanted was the opinion of my NY friends :)

Thank you very much.  I have sent it on to her.

"Dancing at Lughnasa" in the 1990's was another example of a non-musical play which got a choreography Tony nomination.  That play did have a spectacular big dance number, though.

I remember that DR FJL.

Thanks, DR BEN.....that is most interesting.

And I agree I really enjoy A GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE.....on CD and it seems like something I would like to see onstage as well.

Since I am NOT a Gene Kelly fan, I can't even imagine AN AMERICAN IN PARIS being entertaining since his smug face is all over it in my mind.....but maybe the show would make me forget that.....

Good morning afternoon, all.

Arose at 6 a.m. to get to the morning performance of ANNIE.  It's really worth getting up at that time to beat the morning traffic.  I'll do it again on Thursday.

Coffee!   Lunch!  I'm hungry!

Why don't the manufacturers of contour sheets and mattress pads tell the buyer which side of these items is the long side and the short side? By the time I've figured it out, I'm exhausted.

Yes!  Yes!   A thousand times Yes!!

Congrats to all the Tony nominees, a huge number of whom I've worked with.  But especially Beth Malone, who did the first living room reading of the stage version of Nudie Musical (as Rosie) and a memorable Kritzerland performance, and our two Outside the Box actors, Brad Oscar and Brandon Uranowitz.

I would like to see David Friedman and John Bucchino better known outside the cabaret world. They have written so many wonderful songs. Friedman was lucky to have had Nancy LaMott to record so many of them.

I have John Bucchino's CD and songbook, "Grateful."  I've even performed a couple of his songs in the past.  He writes some great songs!

It took me three hours to proof "Happy Birthday," since I was proofreading from two different Don Walker scores.  I bought home the score for "Yassou" to work n the dance music.

And I am home!
