Monday morning greetings!  When I saw we were already up to 4 pages I figured a lot of Eastern time zone people would be here.  But, no, it's all Central and Pacific folk, including me.  Woke up at 5:30, an hour earlier than necessary.  Guess I'm still on Ohio time...

Anyway, Richard's probably boarding his plane in Cincinnati about now.  My flight to SFO is at 10:40 and I'll wave when we fly over LA.  We're to meet at the rental car center and we'll be in Palo Alto tonight.

Good morning, all! I slept terribly.  I vaguely remember one long dream in whch I and a group seemed to be stranded in an enormous space craft and there was something lurking onboard.  It's al too vague now,  I also had a dream that I drove to Brooklyn to see goddaughter Charlotte in a play, and I rememebr bits and pieces of another that had a parade float, I think, although I might have been cleaning out a deceased's personal items.  Too vague now.

I was going to watch a DVD last night, but I kept falling asleep, so around 9:00 I went to bed with the intentions of getting up around 6:00 and accomplish some apartment work. Well best laid plans, ya know: around 9:15 I became nauseous and spent the next three hours in and out of the bathroom.

So, I slept until 8:30 this morning and I feel like garbage. I doubt I will accomplish much at all today.

DR JohnG, I love TROUBLE IN TAHITI,  which was supposedly about Bernstein's parents' unhappy marriage, but I am not a fan of Bernstein's full-length A QUIET PLACE and its interpolation of TROUBLE IN TAHITI into Act Two.  Originally, A QUIET PLACE was written to be a second act for TROUBLE IN TAHITI.  I think it's a great and bitter comic one-act opera whose caricatures do not belong inside the soap-opera realities of the later opera, which I really loathe.

Thank you, DRs Ginny and TCB.  It's bad enough to be puny with things are going well, but I'm still wondering where my life is going, That's a pathetic question when you're pushing 70!

I have to go out and run a few errands before the heat settles down on the City.

Add me to the list of people who did not sleep well last night.

Finally decided to do some reading, so I got through about 30 pages of Peter Filichia's latest book, which is about the 1963-64 season on Broadway. The section I'm on had to do with dramas, most of which failed miserably. Not what you want to read to put you to sleep.

I loved TROUBLE IN TAHITI on first listen way back in the day.  Time to become reacquainted with it.  I only ever knew it from that early recording (Beverly Wolff?) and a few read-throughs of the vocal score.

Never tried A QUIET PLACE, so I believe I'll take a short cut and follow DR Elmore's heads up on that one.

I really enjoyed the 45-minute version, despite some weird animation in the background.

This morning I discovered I had another version, also called Trouble in Tahiti, and it runs 72 minutes long. I'll watch in a day or two.

I'm really trying to watch all of the stuff I've bought on sale in the past year or so.

Singdaw, I'm almost finished with disc two of seven in the "Between You and Me" set. It's very episodic, but some of the episodes are real winners.

This morning she was talking about what a perfectionist Pauline Kael was and how she would always work and rework sentences, always for the better. But there was one instance when Mary made a suggestion to Kael, and the critic seemed dumbfounded that somebody actually helped her improve her copy.

I still love re-reading old Kael reviews of favorite films, especially Altman's movies. I always imagined she was the role model for Blair in "Sunday in the Park."
