DR John G., the misuse of the word "barbecue" is unfortunately rampant.  I can only say, somewhat proudly, that I'm not one of the offenders.
A modest achievement -- I am probably an offender in many other ways, but not in that one.

Most people don't know that the song in Merrily We Roll Along entitled "That Frank" was originally titled "That Fred."        :)

AARRGGHH!!

I just received in the mail the world premiere studio cast recording to the "new" Vernon Duke musical, "Misia," starring Marin Mazzie.  Reading the liner notes, it has a very interesting history.  Vernon Duke wrote the score to a French libretto, entitled Milord l'Arsouille ("Lord Rogue") about Lord Henry Seymour.  It was never translated successfully into English, so Vernon Duke's widow (who had the score) allowed Barry Singer to write a whole new show about Misia Sert, "the celebrated muse of fin de siècle Paris."  What's interesting is that Vernon Duke is an actual character in this new show, although the character doesn't sing.  I just got it so hopefully I'll get to listen to it today.

I worked with Barry Singer around 2004 on Tan Manhattan for the Chicago Humanities Festival.  He is not on my list of 1,000.000 favorite people.  I have a very low opinion of him.

BTW, if any of our HHW researchers can figure out which two Academy Awards shows Miss Loring appeared on and which two nominated songs she sang, that would be great.  I've had no luck.

Candle on the Water from Pete's Dragon
Someone's Waiting for You from the Rescuers
Those two were in 1978

Someone's Waiting for You is one of the best songs on Barbara Cook's Disney album. Gorgeous ballad. Love the lyric, "Always keep a little prayer in your pocket and you're sure to see the light. Soon, there'll be joy and happiness and your little world will be bright."

There are so many other ways in which I offend as well, I'm sure.

Brats on the grill are also great.

So John, you really don't like children, do you??

I was forced by Mr. Sondheim to use Barry Singer to write the notes for Unsung Sondheim.  I found him pedantic and uppity, not necessarily in that order, and I didn't really care for his notes.

Back from a chicken salad sandwich and a few onion rings - ran into my pal Allan Hunt (he was in the TV series Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and I've known him since 1971) who was with Star Trek's Walter Koenig, who I'd never met but who seems like a nice chap.

Then I came home and finished the commentary - great to have it out of the way, and I think it's pretty fun.

I had not been on my bike in 6 days (because of a cold). i needed to pick up some books at the library which is 1.5km away.  I figured I would go pretty slow (between 10-15/km per hour).  I decided to go around the lake and even though i was going so slow I was so tired afterwards (i ended up going 7kms which i guess i shouldn't have done).  I guess i am still lacking energy.

I even got an e-mail sent last night confirming the appointment. Of course, since I have no Internet I couldn't see it...

You have no Internet? We'll send you an email to tell you what to do.

Good ole Verizon. I don't think they think things through.

Whenever I call Comcast to report that I have no Internet connection, their ads while I'm on hold always include messages that "you can go online to find out any outages in your area." ???
