Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of a new What If, and now it is time for you to post until the What If cows come home.

Lucky Stiff, the movie, was financed by people who didn't care if they lost their entire investment, clearly.  It's been sitting on the shelf for three years.  I wouldn't call the Times review good, but they lucked out getting a twentieth stringer as their critic.

Good morning, all!  I slept poorly, and I am hoping I do not fall asleep at the Columbia Library.

DR singsong, congratulations to you and your spouse!  I've been too caught up in my own affairs to give too much thought to my friends.

Yesterday wasn't really mine to enjoy, but by gad, today is.

So what will I do with it?  Ah, that is the question.

DR CHAS SMITH I watched the DVD last night.  It was most informative.  I liked the lead actor....there didn't seem to be a lot of audience response, but that could have been the way the sound was recorded.

A couple of the performances were not so hot.....Madge and Felix.....and the women's clothes were all pretty terrible.  The handsomest man played Simon, as it should be, but his trousers were about three inches too long.....and he was placed on the wrong side of the stage for his hairline most of the time....

BUT it answered some questions for me.  Thanks so much for sending it along!

The Weather Bug says 79 feel like 83 with 74% humidity but it's supposed to get up to 96 by the middle/end of the day. Tomorrow is supposed to be worse!

DR Jrand64, a few people around here are in agreement with you about a couple of those performances.  And this was the second play in two seasons in which a guy's pants or suit jacket were too long.  A fine actor in THE LAST NIGHT OF BALLYHOO wore a fine suit, but it looked like he'd just taken it off the thrift shop rack.  Sets and costumes here are usually splendid, and those things stick out.

They record on opening night, so there are always some one-time flubs.  Such as the timing of the Act I blackout which completely lost its punch and was wonderful every other time.  Too bad.  I've told them many times I don't agree with ONLY recording the first performance.  Do it if you want, but capture another one or two more refined ones later.  (They do it this way so they can give the cast a copy at closing night, but they should still get other ones.  If I were President of the World...)

TOD:
I've never been a big soda fan, but if I had to pick one from my youth, I'd say root beer. My favorite snacks were Cheetos (the puffy kind) and Bugles. My favorite candy bar was the 100 Grand bar. Surprisingly, all three of those snacks are still around.

Definitely.....DR CHAS SMITH....other nights are usually so much better.  A disc only costs ten cents.  Madge knocked over and broke a wine/champagne glass, too, near the end of scene two....tight quarters in the Gillette mansion.   :D

Their stage must not be very deep....the perspective out the window (doors) was wonky.....and their thunder sounded like pots and pans rattling and nobody wore a coat in from outdoors.....in December.....

www.freesound.org has LOTS of free sound effects to download and use.....I love some of their thunder.....

But other than that, I liked the play.  Mrs. A. Lincoln

I liked 7-Up when I was growing up, and Nehi Grape.....their bottles had a cactus on them that was most interesting.

I can't find a picture of that bottle, but I guess they still make it.

Goin' through my head this morning:

Singin' in the Bathtub

I hear Bugs Bunny singing it, but I cannot find a decent audio link with Bugs' voice, so the link above is from 1929.

Tuesday morning greetings!  I'm in a bit of a fog because my echocardiogram is this afternoon and, although I can eat normally today, I was limited to one serving of caffeine this morning.  Also still kind of bummed about yesterday's conversation with Mom, but I will deal with that tomorrow.
