TOD - My Mom made fabulous chicken and dumplings, always my sister's request for her August birthday even though it's not really "summer" food. Another frequent dinner in our home was liver and onions with fried potato slices. Not on everyone's list, I'm sure, and not something I'd ever cook myself. We rarely had dessert for everyday dinners, but for special occasions, our favorite was Mom's no-bake cheesecake. I tried to make it once and found out how &%#$ much work it really was!

He's on The Weather Channel, DR Singdaw, and if he's broadcasting from your locale something BIG is on the way. Last time he was in Dayton, OH, we had a pre-Christmas snowstorm that kept us housebound for 3 days and the snowplow got stuck at our corner.

Marinated crab legs. When I was turning 12 years old, I assumed everyone would love this, so I insisted my mom make it for a birthday party I was having with about six girlfriends. My dad tried to warn me that my friends would probably prefer sloppy joes, but I insisted on the crab legs. He was right - my friends ate the crab, but they were less than enthusiastic about
it.

My mom made a lemon bunt cake with chocolate chips in it that we all liked a lot. The problem was the chips tended to sink to the bottom in the batter, so they weren't very evenly spread throughout the cake. They all pretty much ended up in the bottom third of the cake (which became the top when you flipped it over). When my sister got old enough, she was sure she
could do a better job than my mom could of preventing the chips from sinking and she made her own cake. When it came out of the oven, the chips were completely lined up against the edge of the cake — much worse than my mom's. It was pretty amusing.

I would not like those as I pucker at tart. Interesting too as I don't normally like lemon bars since they tend to be too sweet.

Exactly. The others are too sweet. They are just right. I doubt you would find them too tart.

DR Ginny reminds me that I, too, loved liver and onions as a kid. It was kind of a regular thing for us.

(Best I ever had, though, was in Cleveland at a greasy spoon near the University Circle area called The Big Penny. That was with onions and bacon, and this place had my favorite french fries in the world, which I'd rank right up there with those at Dolores.)

Got the great news that John Boswell can do the March Kritzerland, then got the bad news that once again they've booked out the room on our date, which means we have to do the show on Tuesday, as we did in December. It will be our final show there unless we work out an arrangement - if that arrangement is having another night be our show night, but one they cannot cancel, that's fine by me. I built this show and it has lasted so long based on consistency - you always know where we are and when we are, and that has been totally put into disarray by these creeps. Sterling is very upset, too, and is beginning to think about looking for a new venue or at least talking to the main guy who brought him there - if he knows what's going on maybe that guy can stop his underlings from doing this crap. Or just give me Tuesday nights forever with no option of canceling us, or pay for the show - if they're paying for the show, then I don't mind having to do all the work necessary to move the date and I won't care if we sell out or not because it won't impact me at all.

You are absolutely right, though - you build a following through consistency. Once people can't count on a regular schedule, that's the death of it. They won't make an effort to come.

Thunderstorms are fairly rare here in the Pacific Northwest...they're not as rare as they used to be, though. Global warming and climate change and all that has made them a little less rare.
