Well, you've read the notes, the notes opened, and now it is time for you to post until the opened cows come home.

HA!  Good news about the opening - except for the beginning glitch.  I am surprised the projectors were NOT already on the to check list....

TOD:

Hmmmmm......I have not been to many Opening Nights other than my own.

I guess I most enjoyed JOSEPH & THE TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT in 1993.  I had purchased a copy of the London Cast CD that had just been released - the one with Jason Donovan.  It was the first time I had heard the Mega-Mix, which I thought was very funny.....

It wasn't yet included in the materials, so I asked Debby (who is playing Marmee now) to see if she couldn't assemble it for us, which she did.  The audience went wild for it.  It was also the first time we used the turntable for scene changes, so that was something else that they applauded and carried on about.

The director of Carousel had built....a carousel....so I just added a frame to it, and asked the set designer to paint some lively backdrops.....we had a great camel, a nice cactus.....and we used the NOW familiar logo on the opening backdrop.

The whole thing was quite nice....although nothing we did then hasn't been done hundreds of times since....at least.

TOD, other than anything Skip and/or I had written:  Most memorable opening night of a play was M. BUTTERFLY, when the theater was genuinely all abuzz, most memorable opening night of a musical was PASSION, which was just a fabulous night all around.

Most memorable opening night of a movie will likely always be THE FIRST NUDIE MUSICAL's first evening showing in New York City at the 68th Street Playhouse.  I think it had played several times during the day, but there was a real excitement to that first post-6 pm showing, at least for those of us who were thrilled to have gotten in.

I need to call Rob Berman.  If his parents are intown for Encores!, then i will go to City center and see them.  If not, I will stay here, tidy a bit, see if Heller can get this DVD player up and running, and take him to dinner to thank him.

As far as Rob knows, his parents are coming in, so I will head to City Center around 1:00, catch the matinee and feedback, see his parents, and come home.  I'll ask Heller to show up around 6:15 or so.

Sorry about projector problems, but wonderful to hear about the great opening.

When doing Avenue Q a couple of years ago, our pre-show warm-ups centered around the projections.  Our tech lady worked those things like a sumbitch every single show, following a minor mishap very early in the run.  It was very very minor, but you learn quickly to take that very seriously.

Looking forward to tomorrow evening at Encores!, when I just might be running into DR Elmore whose dance card is already quite full.  Listening to a lot of Waltz today.

My one dream, and it was a rather hugely annoying one, was an abstraction (impossible to describe) utilizing one of the main melodies from Ragtime.  I'd been at a neighbor's cocktail par-tay yesterday evening, and they were playing the cast album - which was great to hear, but the damned music came home with me.  Happy to be up and out of the dream.

I guess I'm very slow, or I never really thought about it before, but:

I just discovered the inspiration for "Guy Haines".
