I am going to the theatre tonight to take some photos for the slide show/bios and one for a weekly newspaper with an early deadline.

Back from bacon and eggs and toast and fruit, then a two-and-a-half mile jog.

And the topic was? Certainly not about Julie Taymor or Hamilton.

Getting ready to go see a movie at a theater I haven't been to since I graduated high school. That's 36 years ago.

I'm remembering some of the many flicks I saw there in the past: Wise Blood, The Stunt Man, Chabrol's Cat and Mouse, The Marriage of Maria Braun, a rerelease of Sleeping Beauty, Rocky, Bound for Glory.

Tonight, it's Indignation, based on the Philip Roth novel. I read it when I was on the road doing the BBQ book. Liked it a lot. I hear the movie is very faithful.

Given my offbeat choices in movies, I was often the only person in the theater. Wonder if tonight will be any different.

I recommend Indignation to the Philip Roth fans out there. Intelligent filmmaking, a script that stuck closely to the novel, and a dream cast.

Danny Burstein was just wonderful as the father who's beginning to obsess a little too much about his son's future. Linda Emond was the perfect Jewish mother, with equal parts love and steel and guilt. Tracy Letts was all pomposity and moral rectitude and yet somehow managed to find something almost human underneath the bluster.

It was $2 at the theater, a second-run house, and there were about 35 people in a space that seats 75 or so, so the place felt full without being crowded. All adults and all attentive. They laughed at the right places and didn't talk during the picture. It felt good.

That's two movies in the theater so far in one year. Twice as many as I saw last year.

I'd read something about this movie recently, but I don't remember what it was.  I know that I was interested in seeing it, also.  Who doesn't want to see Danny Burstein?

I just looked on rottentomatoes.com and it has an 80% critic rating and a 90% audience rating.  That's significant!

Tomorrow, we're having our annual summer barbecue, and I'm bringing a frozen (to be defrosted by tomorrow) key lime pie (my sister had it and didn't want it) and some jalapeño cheddar cheese spread.  It's really good.  They're both from Trader Joe's.
