In other DR Elmore-related news, in my sorting this morning I unearthed an article I'd forgotten I had because it had never been put in the right place. It's a complete tear-out of a July 3, 1989 New Yorker piece by Ethan Mordden called "SHOW BOAT" CROSSES OVER. I have no memory of having read it (!), so that situation is about to be rectified.

DR Elmore, you probably have everything in existence on that, but if you can use a copy of this, you're totally welcome to my original (sorry I didn't keep the issue cover), or to the scan of it I'll make later today.

There were a lot of different colors used in the sheet music covers. Here are a yellow and green "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes."

All I know is how I used to explain "fair use" to the pre-service teachers I taught at Miami University, but that was 20 years ago. The key words were "spontaneity" and "brevity." If someone told me I had to become a lawyer, I'd specialize in intellectual property.

I work at the Timberland Regional Library Administrative Service Center, which is the headquarters of a five-county, 27-branch library district. It's its own special taxing district, so it's not dependent on the state or any other library districts. We get our funding mostly from timber revenue and property taxes. We're on pretty solid ground, financially.
