From DR John:

The cream cheese was more solid, so I spread it around the outside of the bowl and put the more liquid dip in the center.

So there was a bowl dividing them.  Now I can picture it :)

TOD:
Heaven Can Wait
Reds

Why am I the only person who loved "Reds"? For years that was my favorite movie of all time - all three hours of it.

Red was good.  I considered listing it.

I've only seen it once, however, I recall liking DICK TRACEY.

I'm afraid all the donuts won't get to your friend, Elmore. I got them from a place that was on the "best donuts in every state" list. My sample was awesome.

Maybe you should have got 2 boxes?

Some of the donuts on this link look amazing.  I wanted the cream cheese donut with chocolate oozing out of it, from Dough in Brooklyn, until I read the chocolate is Nutella.  Nutella is hazelnut and you know how I feel about that.

I have only been to one of these shops, Blue Star Donuts in Portland.  A friend kept raving about them.  We were underwhelmed.

I love doughnuts.  I don't go in for a lot of fancy ones, but there are a few in those pictures I could stuff my face with right now.

That would be perfect, actually... a nice finisher on top of the eggs and bacon.  Don't you think?  With another nice cup of coffee?

Apropos of nothing, here's a Morphine Tango (from Kiss of the Spider Woman) you won't see -- or hear -- every day.

DR Laura, have fun today.

Thanks, Elmore.

We are going to take the bus. The theater is on the university campus, and today is homecoming. Traffic will be a total mess. I am sad to say, that since I am going to have to do quite a bit of walking, that I will have to wear my hiking boots. My achilles tendon has not improved, and the boots are the only shoes I can walk any distance in.

I went back to the donut shop and got two smaller boxes. I don't think I could carry that big box on the bus very easily.

I got out of there without buying another donut.

The hiking boots could be seen as a tribute to the "Climb Every Mountain" finale of the show, though.

While I was putting CDs away I found another performance of Randall Thompson's second symphony, this on Chandos, conducted by Neeme Jarvi with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.  Parts of it are the best of the bunch - the orchestra is really great and the only thing that took some getting used to was the quicker tempo in the slow second movement (a beautiful tune) - but the first movement is fifteen seconds faster than the Bernstein and boy does that make a difference in a good way.  They're all interesting - Bernstein, in light of hearing these others, is certainly better than I was giving it credit for, save for the sloppiness.  The Jarvi lacks a certain bit of the fun of the final movement, which is key.  I also found the Koch so I'll be curious to play it and see if it's like the rest of their output - distant miked and bad - but that CD also has Thompson's third, so want to hear that - they also did his first and want to revisit that.

As expected, the Koch recording is dreadful in just about every way, with a final movement that is a minute and twenty seconds LONGER than the Bernstein and a minute longer than the Jarvi - dynamics are, of course, distant and all over the place.  Terrible.  So, of these, the Jarvi is the smoothest and perhaps technically the best played, but in the end the Bernstein, while certainly not fun, captures the spirit of the piece best, save for the opening minute or so.  That's the one to get until someone does one that's absolutely perfect, which will probably occur on the twelfth of never.

No bowl dividing them. The liquid one was at the center. You could get one chip into both dips at the same time.

Listened to the first several songs of Unsung Sherman Brothers--love it so far!  Only problem--I tried later to play it in my car's CD player and it wouldn't work.
