"A Doll's House Part 2" by Lucas Hnath is also about to open on Broadway, per the Times.

Well, my cold appears to finally be settling in for the winter.  The massive doses of VitaminC dodn't stop it in its tracks, dammit.  I guess I'll be wheezing through the concert tonight, and I suspected that if I feel as poorly as I do now, I'll head directly home after the performance.

Picked up a couple of packages.  Have mostly been listening to music this day, and doing some work on the computer.  And uploading music, of course.

I'm not sure I "get" a reunion concert for a show that closed within the past six months.

Have listened to four of the six Martinu symphonies - as with Sibelius, I share a birthdate with him.  I remember enjoying these twenty years ago - sound is not very good and I need to give them another listen but am not bowled over certainly.

I also listened to an absolutely great Rachmaninov second, completely uncut and one of the longest if not THE longest versions ever recorded.  I want every note of this symphony, frankly, and it's just great.  The conductor is Gennadi Rozhdestvensky and it's on the Alto label and highly recommended by the likes of me.  I'm going through all my versions of this, my favorite symphony of all time.

The Von Karajan Sibelius two-CD set arrived today and I immediately listened to the 5th (he only recorded four through seven for Deutsche Grammophon - he did all but the third, which he's never recorded, on a later EMI set).  This mostly got five-star reviews on Amazon, but as always there's at least one person who calls something a travesty.  The question is, who's right?  Well, if the 5th is any indicator of who's right, it's the five-star reviews.  First of all, the sound is absolutely stunning - every bit of it - so clear and warm and open and with all the detail you'd ever want.  Secondly, everything about the performance and the playing is fantastic - it's now tied with Barbirolli for my favorite 5th of what I've heard - and the big going into the big tune is so perfect here and that was my only caveat with Barbirolli - it didn't quite emotionally do it for me, whereas this is everything I'd ever want from that moment.  I'm listening to the 4th now and it's equally as good, but it's the sound that's simply blowing me away.

I listened to the "Also Sprach Zarathustra"/"The Planets" CD conducted by William Stenberg and thoroughly enjoyed it.  I can't say if it's better or worse than any other recording, because I've never heard any other recording of either piece before.  But I definitely am glad I picked it, BK. :)

No, here's something.  Over on Home Theater Forum this morning, they've got teeny tiny little snowflakes falling through the blue banner at top, through images on the main page, and through the smaller blue dividers above people's posts.

https://www.hometheaterforum.com/    (give it a few seconds to begin)

Just look at what a horrible nuisance and distraction they are!!!  I'm kidding, of course.  But several people have complained about them and want them removed.  One poor fellow had the "daylights" scared out of him till he was able to figure out what it was.

You really do have to fear for the human race sometimes.

Hmmm, they must have removed it.

We are gearing up for a fun weekend celebrating Mary Linda's graduation (Friday) from Miami University with her MBA.  Her parents and grandparents are coming from Michigan and her sister is coming from Cleveland for the festivities.

Congrats to Mary Linda!

Thanks, DR George!

Fingers crossed another couple can be found to go see "George Takei's Allegiance" tomorrow night and we can relax worrying if I will cough or not.

I have a viral bronchitis, which means no antibiotics to clear it up.  As much as I hate taking them it would be simpler in this case.  I have an inhaler, that did not make me all shaky, cough medicine with codeine, and mucinex.

Which post scared you?  I thought I'd decided not to post my low points of 2016.  :)

Oh yes, I see - but the author of Doll's House Part 2 is really a good writer.

Highlights were the amazing amount of trips we took this year.  I don't like to dwell on the negative.  Another year without even the hope of grandchildren is very hard.  I only said this in a weak moment because the coughing has tired me out.  I need to be well by Sunday and for Keith to stay healthy.
