Well, you've read the notes, the notes crossed the two-page mark, and now it is time for you to post until the crossing cows come home.

Tomorrow and Thursday we are to get a brief respite from these temperatures.  Supposed to reach fifty where I am.  I'll take it.

I had my first carbonara just several years ago and loved it.  Over the next couple of years I ordered it a couple of times at other places, where it ranged between so-so and yucky.  I haven't yet been back to the original place, and I really must go there to see what the difference is ... and if there is indeed a big difference or if my tastes changed since that first time and I'm not really crazy about carbonara.  Yes, this I must do.

Jane, I started reading Proust because it had been a New Year's resolution when I was in my 40s and I never got around to it. Now I'm loving most every word and trying not to rush it.

That said, I read 12 pages last night not because I wanted to read that much but because the paragraph was that long. Yes, one paragraph.

I get the permanent crown this morning, so it's off to the dentist shortly.

I started with the Moncreith. But I'm now reading the series that Christopher Prendergadt edited. It's supposedly truer to the original. That I can't say, but the writing style is more conversational, less arch.

TOD:

If I see something on a menu with a Puttanesca sauce made with anchovies, I will likely order it above all else. There is something so rich, salty and bright about the mix of tomatoes, olives, capers, anchovies, garlic, olive oil and crushed red peppers that I can't resist. I'm drooling as I type this. I may have to make some soon.

But I don't think it's right to eat that much garlic before going to the dentist.

And here's a puttanesca sauce I'm going to try. The writer talks about adding lemon zest, which I think would be wonderful. I also like her explanation of the name, which sounds more plausible than the urban legend about it having originated in houses of ill repute.

TOD: favorite overall meals at restaurants would be a tie between the very elegant Il Tinello in New York and the down-to-earth "Lady and the Tramp" restaurant at Magic Kingdom in Disney World

TOD:
I love virtually all Italian food. My favorite restaurant was called something like Westwood Pasta, but it wasn't located in Westwood, which was odd. Papa Louie's in Santa Monica was also wonderful with the most amazing garlic bread, but that's gone too. Anyway, we have a Bucca di Beppo very near us that we like, but it's not nearly as fun with only two people since it's family style. I would be very hard pressed to pick a favorite. I do love a good linguini with clams, either red or white sauce. Lasagna is also wonderful. And then there's ravioli with a good pesto sauce. And a simple bolognese can be heavenly too. There's just too many to choose from.
