How many slots are there for Best Picture?

They can have up to 10 best picture nominees, which means they don't have to fill all 10 slots.

TCB, drop him a note - it's very bad when you put your trust in someone and ask them to do something that is important to you and they sit on it.  If he's busy and hasn't had a chance to get to it, he needs to tell you that.  But really be sure you trust his judgment before making any changes.  I am the luckiest man on Earth with Muse Margaret because she knows me inside out and she just unerringly knows when something doesn't feel right - she's sometimes inarticulate about it, but if she feels something isn't right we hash it out until we figure out the WHY of that.  But I will say on my first book, it was nothing but encouragement and I think the only thing I ever got from her was asking for more clothing description a couple of times.  This is your first and it's very critical that you TRUST this guy's artistic judgment and to always present anything in a positive manner.

Not knowing ANYTHING about writing (especially books), this does sound like good (but especially experienced) advice.

Just my 2˘.
