Okay, the What If DVD question has been decided and they are on their way.
<SNIP>
What I do ask is that no one make copies of the DVD - obviously everyone will be on the honor system in that regard, but it's important to me that no extra copies be made.  Thanks.  And the recipients are: Dan-in-Toronto, Jane, elmore, MattH, George, Jose, Jrand, and Michael Barnum.  The DVDs are all on their way.  Again, please lend them to any dear readers who'd like to see them.

Thanks, BK!!  I feel like I've won the lottery!  Hey, maybe TCB, Ann, Jed and I can have our own little PNW HHW gathering and watch it together!!  Maybe. ::)  If not, I could easily send it on to them, since were all in the neighborhood.

DR vixmom:

As  a junior member, you should know the rules here.  In particular:

Rule Number 42:
There is no groaning allowed here at haineshisway dot com.

It's the oldest rule in the book.  Oh, an Alice's Adventures in Wonderland reference!

Then it ought to be number one!!
Shall you now turn pale and shut your notebook?

CDs:

The Percy Faith reissues, which, happily, look like they'll be continuing next year with two (count 'em) more volumes of the singles-only collections.

Brian Wilson Presents Smile.  I like the original version of "Surf's Up" better, but it's great to hear this rarity after so many years.

Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 Fool on the Hill.  The 2004 reissue preserves the gatefold cover, with the "naughty bits" on the back (you know, the part that Sears put a red sticker over in 1968), and has the best overall mastering of all the re-releases of this classic.

The Carnival.  The group that several fired Brasil '66 members formed post-Sergio recorded one fantastic album for World Pacific, plus a couple of singles for United Artists, all of which are on this new, expanded CD release.  Production and sound by Bones Howe and Bob Alcivar, so think Brasil '66 meets the 5th Dimension.  Groovy stuff.

I'll think of more later, but here's the touching theater story of the day (actually, yesterday):

Our babysitter, who was sitting for us last night, studies voice with former Portlander Shoshana Bean's teacher.  She was at the teacher's house yesterday when Shoshana called to say she was replacing Menzel in Wicked.  The teacher just broke down and lost it and the rest of the lesson was a wash.  Our babysitter is beyond excited and is trying to finagle a way to get back to NYC to see the show.  :)

As for today's Topic of the Day (at least it's not the top 10 favorite CD releases, so we can list as many as we want!)

An Acapella Christmas - The Manhattan Transfer (just received from Japan yesterday!!)
Cheryl Bentyne Sings Waltz for Debby - Cheryl Bentyne (of The Manhattan Transfer...also just received from Japan yesterday!!)
Sketches of Broadway - Janis Siegel (also of The Manhattan Transfer!!)
Bus & Truck - The Demo Recording
Kritzer Time CD
Vibrate - The Manhattan Transfer

As for favorite cast recordings of 2004:
Assassins
Bounce
Caroline, or Change
Fine and Dandy
- World Premiere Recording

These are just the ones I could think of without looking through my CDs at home.  I'll probably add to this list tonight, after I get home...there are more! ;D

Evening all!

I don’t know if your going to cotton to what I’m going to say but I do promise to be brief.

More vibes to Jose’s father and to DR Ann.  I  have my fingers and toes and arms and legs crossed for you!  Which makes it really hard to type!

DR Jane is also in my thoughts.

Welcome to New Dear Reader Alexpaige!  Always nice to see a new “face”.

Yes, we must have no lulls - or bananas.  No more wire lulls EVER.

All this talk of underpants (particularly cotton underpants, particularly white cotton underpants) reminds me that Jane Krakowski once sent me a pair of white cotton underpants for my birthday (I mean, they were female, not for me to wear) - and yes, Virginia, they were new!

Had a nice work session with Kevin Spirtas today.  Next week we'll start working in a rehearsal room.

Didn't get much writing done, but did read what I've done on both books and am jiggy with it.  On the fiction book I'm still feeling my way, trying to figure out its style and tone, but the opening is very nice.

These lulls are most un-Christmas like, don't you think.  Here is a photograph to perk things up.  The sky, just forty minutes ago, as seen from my front yard.

No, no, no (that is three nos), this will NOT do.  The four calling birds are going to be calling and you will not enjoy hearing what they will be saying.  They will be rude calling birds, if some people don't get off'n their butt cheeks and get some postin' goin' on.

Is there a lighted tree on top of the Capitol Records Tower this year?

How about a photo, if so!

Can anyone see a "landmark" from any room in his/her house?

And what about the photos of Christmas trees?  We haven't seen very many at all!

Who had the "red" tree last year, - can we see it again this season?

Ok! OK!  Here's my post!  I'm on a commercial break from the Apprentice finale.

BK, the photos are beautiful.  You should post shots of your home and environs more often.

And so, back to the Finale . . .

I was very happy with Clay Aiken's MERRY CHRISTMAS WITH LOVE holiday CD. He winds his powerful voice around some holiday songs, and the ones I had never heard before like the title track and "Mary, Did You Know" I really liked.

With all the rumors about his sexuality the title can be taken another way.

Jose, while checking your posts to see how your father is doing I noticed Hisaka has to talking about Japanese food-as if you need prompting to talk about food.

To those lucky readers who are getting the What If? DVD you are in for a special treat. I really enjoyed the show and I hope that you will experience the same joy that I did when I saw it. Really a good cast and good material. Please do report on it and I will include them on the What If page on www.brucekimmel.com.

Hello! I'm back.
DR Ann - Loads of vibes!
And, BTW, if I had a thousand bucks for each time I've heard the phrase "Could turn out to be cancerous" or a variation of same, I'd have... lots of money. Try not to worry (Easy for me to say, I know, but I've been down this street a number of times and each time it's turned out to be nothing. Zip.) So let's hope - let's ASSUME - that it turns out to be nothing but a pesky cyst. So I'm sending out it's-a-pesky-cyst-but-nothing-else vibes right now!
