I returned to A PLACE TO CALL HOME last night. If Regina gets what she deserves, I MUST see it. I figured all the lies, scheming, and malice might make Washington politics look tame. Or not. The scene between Elizabeth Bligh and Doris Collins was GREAT diplomacy.

I loved the ending of the season.

And of course, it's always in the last place you look.  :)

It's with my car title.

Watching a documentary called The Boys of '36 about the U.S. Olympic rowing team. Fascinating.

I'm finishing up a bunch of books at a fast and furious page since the last of the Proust. Yesterday, it was Don Quixote. Ted Hughes' translation of the Oresteia the day before. Tonight, it's Down the Garden Path, a delightful book about British gardening that was written in the 1920s and is still very charming in a Wodehousean way.

I've started an Indian-American version of the Electra story that's only just OK in the first 50 pages and I'm two-thirds of the way through Notes from Underground (I read it in high school and don't remember a thing).

Started the documentary "By Sidney Lumet." I like the fact that the director is doing all the talking and the clips seem to be specifically chosen for what he's talking about. I need to see some of these movies, like The Sea Gull for the first time. Others, like The Pawnbroker or Serpico, I haven't seen in years.

Back from our matinee - hadn't seen the show in two weeks - two actors a bit low energy for my taste and they'll get a note about it, but it flew by and the audience had fun - over half a house and the talkback was really fun - we have another one next week.

Then went to Doug's partay.  They had Sharkey's - not my favorite.  I had one tiny tortilla filled with chicken fajita, a bit of guacamole, two chips and a tiny bit of Spanish rice - in other words, not much at all.  I stopped at Gelson's and got some rigatoni bolognese from the hot bar for the remainder of my meal.  And now, listening to Rimsky-Korsakov.

Got it from the library. Directed by someone named Nancy Buirski.

In the chutzpah department: Some young kid who'd like to do the kids Kritzerland show just posted a video of some talent contest she's in - she sang Don't Rain on My Parade - she needs guidance - a very good voice, but the arrangement is pure Barbra, and that's just what you don't want to do.  But that's not the chutzpah part.  The chutzpah part is the video with a bunch of tap dancing kids (not this girl) doing Back in Business from Dick Tracy.  That's not the chutzpah part either.  The chutzpah part is that whoever created the track they used "borrowed" my arrangement from the Sondheim at the Movies album, including all the tap breaks and the very ME ending, not to mention basing their track clearly on elmore's orchestration - no one has ever done the song like we did it, so I'm not imagining things.  In the film it's just basically a rhythm section, no tapping at all, and a conventional finish.  I'd love to know where they got the track and in fact will endeavor to find out.

On my DVD burner, I'd recorded a whole bunch of musical performances on TV over the years, but just left them there, but it's running out of room, so I'm finally burning DVDs of these.

I finished one disc yesterday.  That and the one I'm finishing right now are random classical (for the most part) clips from the Classic Arts Showcase channel.  A lot of historical performances.  It's really cool what they show on the channel.

I just found out yesterday that a check that a patron wrote to see TAO's 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche a couple of weeks ago has bounced! >:( So, we lost the original $30 amount for the two tickets, plus a $10 fee AND another $5 fee!  WHF??

If you cannot get the money, take the check writer to small claims court and add any bank fees.

I guess that's possible, but would the hassle of all of that be worth the $45? :-\

You were charged a fee for the bounced check, not the person who wrote it?!?

I would hope that the person who wrote it also got NSF fees, but I want to know why we were charged twice. :P

Watched another Hitchcock hour - terrible episode.  Started one other, which is very good, with Joan Hackett and Kevin McCarthy and from a novel by the wonderful Margaret Millar, who was also Mrs. Ross MacDonald.
