Home from all errands: bank, lab work, and Metrocard refill.

Last night I decided, kind of on the spur of the moment, to throw together a batch of Cincinnati Chili.

Well, "throw together" is an apt description for the result.  It's the simplest thing, of course, but as with anything it's well worth doing at a proper pace and getting everything right and in balance.  It's a good thing this was just for me alone to binge on, not a shared meal or God forbid someone else's introduction to the dish.

Regardless of the care not taken, it hit the basic satisfaction mark required of it.  I can say that much.  Next time will be better!
Plus, it's always better the next day.

Here's the NYMF photo taken yesterday..  i'm far left with Josh, the reed player.  I think the band and I should have been included in the photo, but we weren't asked.

This was Gold Star, and I have one more can of that to use up, then back to the Skyline which I've already determined is superior.  I like it a little better at the restaurants (though both are thoroughly satisfying there), but I find Skyline does their canned version way better.  For my taste, anyway.

Thanks. I haven't tried Gold Star. I'll stick with Skyline

Tuesday morning greetings!  I'm off in about an hour for lunch with my grantwriter friends.  This is the group as whose August meeting I had a heart attack 7 years ago.  Will try not to repeat that today...

Lost an acquaintance to lung cancer yesterday. She was one of those people who meant well but could be occasionally irritating without realizing it. (Like me, I'm sure.) She could also be charming and funny and driven. After getting a divorce, Alex decided to go to culinary school and did quite well, but the first diagnosis was just as she was finishing up.

She leaves behind two children in their teens. I just feel really sorry for her family.

DR FJL -  I would do a reading of TLS, but it would only be me and Precious.....

Such fun reading about the Kritzerland rehearsals.....AND DR ELMORE's adventures in musicals....at the NYMF.

I like the picture, too, DR ELMORE, and certainly the band, Josh, and you should have been included.....

I have a funeral to play this morning and laundry and more programming today.  I'm going to Disneyland for a few days next week, so the apartment needs to be clean enough for someone live in it and watch the dogs.

Looking at the NYMF photo - that's either an all non-union cast or these people have all the money in the world.

It's possible all budget restrictions may have officially gone out the window the past several years.

Well Equity has been trying to change things so the actors get paid minimum wage - fat chance - no one could afford that and if they can then NYMF has lost all sense of what it was and its beginnings.  Even back when FJL and I did our shows there it was a joke.  A budget cap that no one paid attention to and productions were spending, even a decade ago, a hundred grand for their NYMF shows - renting storage trucks so they could have bigger and better sets than anyone else.  When NYMF began it began as a level playing field.  It is anything BUT level now - it's all about how much money you have, who has the best sound, lights, sets, band, name cast - it's a bloody joke and not an especially funny one.  And they come like lemmings from all over the country to spend all that money.  It was horrid ten years ago (and it is exactly ten years since I came to NY to begin rehearsals for The Brain), and it's ten times worse now.

There was that roller skating show in our NYMF year that went on its own contract, wasn't there?
