Well, you've read the notes, the notes were written on the first of August and spoke of that glorious Mancini music, and now it is time for you to post until the August cows come home.

Today at work, we're having our annual summer barbecue potluck.  The "meats" (beef burgers, hot dogs, and veggie burgers) are being provided.  I'm bringing a variety of cheeses.  It's usually a lot of fun with a lot of great food. :D Can't wait!

I am quite tured today, and I will most likely do or accomplish very little.  I have to be at my doctor's office for labwork at 8:30, and I ave no plans beyond that/

I got to the theatre at 8:00 yesterday for an 8:30 call, but NYMF rules wouldn't let us into the theatre before 9:00.  We were supposed to have a 2-hour music rehearsal, but we had no soud until 10:00, when we discovered the synth programming wasn't working and keyboard 2 had no sounds.  Around 10:30 we actually began running through the music with the second keyboard playing piano; no concertina, no celesta, no harpsichord. During aqll of this we had to deal with lights comiong and goingt and the stage crew setting up the scenery.

Joshie showed up to help me out, and every time I was ready yo explode, he would say, this is why I've only done one NYMF show.  My surprise is that after being around so long, it's as needlessly chaotic as ever.

So, the new surprise was that there needed to be curtain calls,  Josh made copies of all the needed materials and left.  He showed up around 3:00 with them and the band read them down at the end of the dress rehearsal.  I am blessed to have such a fantastic friend.

Michael Gildin spent his lunch break programming the synth and by the time of the cast run-through with the band, be had sounds.  They for refined between the run-through at 1:00 and the dress rehearsal around 3:30, but they were up and running.

By the dress rehearsal, the band was starting to look at the notes and make sense of where they fit into things,  The dress went very smoothly, I had a nice dinner with some of the cast, the set designer, and the composer which was a nice break after all the morning's tsuris.

I think the show's really charming, very funny, with a couple of unexpected touching moments. It's a show for children that I think will amuse adults.  There was one orchestra glitch in the opening performance, but we got past it rather smoothly.

TOD

My 2 favorite Robert Redford film is

Three Days of the Condor and The Hot Rock. I can watch them over and over again

All the President's Men. Another film I have seen many times over the years.

others

Barefoot In the Park
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

The Way We Were I've always considered a Streisand film.

The Sting is okay the second time around only to look for the clues for "the Sting" to see if everything is set up correctly. It doesn't, in my opinion, bear multiple viewings like the other films above.

An early TV performance in a Twilight Zone called Nothing In The Dark is rather bland and almost derails the show, but he does have some good moments at the end of the episode.

Glad there are more fans of Three Days of the Condor. It's also a favorite of mine.

DR Elmore, that's an amazing series of mishaps or whatever you'd like to call it, with the keyboard and all the other prep for the opening of a show.  Seriously, WTF?  Talk about last minute...   But all's well that ends well, I think I heard some guy say once.

Last night I decided, kind of on the spur of the moment, to throw together a batch of Cincinnati Chili.

Well, "throw together" is an apt description for the result.  It's the simplest thing, of course, but as with anything it's well worth doing at a proper pace and getting everything right and in balance.  It's a good thing this was just for me alone to binge on, not a shared meal or God forbid someone else's introduction to the dish.

Regardless of the care not taken, it hit the basic satisfaction mark required of it.  I can say that much.  Next time will be better!

This was Gold Star, and I have one more can of that to use up, then back to the Skyline which I've already determined is superior.  I like it a little better at the restaurants (though both are thoroughly satisfying there), but I find Skyline does their canned version way better.  For my taste, anyway.
